All men aren’t rapists, Nandita Das clears the air on her misquoted quote!

April 3, 2015

Mumbai, Apr 3: The Fire actress recently came under fire for allegedly saying “all men are rapists” in an interview. Here is why I think that all the criticism and Nandita Sen bashing on social media needs to stop!

Nandita DasNandita Das is one of the handful of actresses who stand firm against gender stereotyping. She is everything a conventional actress is not supposed to be, yet she is beautiful inside out. Nandita Das also puts her celeb status to positive use as she advocates for equal rights for women and other socially relevant causes. Even the films she makes and features in define her liberal yet aware personality. So when I read a quote from the Earth 1947 actress which read “Every man is a rapist” I was aghast! My first reaction was, ” She would NEVER have said that!”

When Nandita Das heard about all the hate she was getting on social media, she tweeted, “I’m being falsely quoted Never said all men are rapists. What kind of a stupid generalisation is that? sad that 1 have to even explain this.”

Nandita is happily married to an entrepreneur named Subodh Maskara, she has a 5 year old boy and I am pretty certain that her inner most social circle includes men who are her friends. Then how can she make an outrageous statement like “All men are rapists”? Clearly this is a classic case of a celebrity being misquoted! It happens all the time. An actor/actress while being interviewed says something which is understood as something else and written about as something completely different. A lot of media survives on misquoting or quoting celebs out of context. And I believe THAT is what happened with the actress who has been a part of some phenomenally eye-opening films like Firaaq, Provoked, Earth 1947, Fire and more…

So why did people on social media show absolute disregard to Nandita Sen’s past record and started bashing her quite brutally? Das is one of the most socially aware actresses of our time. She is a feminist no doubt but that doesn’t mean she is a man-hating feminazi. Before writing her off as a “retarded feminist” or trolling her on Twitter with the #NanditaDasQuotes, why don’t we seek some clarity on the context in which the actress allegedly made that remark?

Now I ask of you to look at the source of this particular sexist quote which is allegedly by Nandita. No points for guessing, Nandita was quoted by the same media organisation which has in the past ran into a “cleavage controversy” with Deepika Padukone, called Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s legs “ugly”, and biggest of all quoted Sachin Tendulkar’s condolences on Philip Hughes’ death as “RIP Sachin Tendulkar”!

Now tell me what would you trust more: a publication with a reputation or an actress who has literally spent most of her life forwarding the cause of women’s socio-economic equality?

I guess the choice is pretty obvious. Nevertheless, I would like for you guys to tell me what you think in the comments section below. Even if you disagree with my opinion, feel free to share your

Mumbai,  Aug 7: Unless Maharashtra Government consents to CBI investigation in the Sushant Singh Rajput's death case, it would be illegal, affecting the federal structure of the country, said actor Rhea Chakraborty's lawyer.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered and continued the illegality which was perpetrated at the hands of Bihar Police in connection with the case, he added.

"The Bihar Government transferred a case with which it had no jurisdiction to investigate, to CBI instead of the Mumbai Police which is the legal position. The Supreme Court is seized of the issue pursuant to the transfer petition filed by Rhea Chakraborty," said Satish Maneshinde Chakraborty's lawyer.

The Supreme Court has directed all parties to file their replies and Mumbai Police is directed to place the report of investigations, he added.

"Pending the said proceedings the CBI has registered and continued the illegality which was perpetrated at the hands of Bihar Police.

CBI being a premier investigative agency in the country should desist from taking any further steps pending the SC proceedings. Apart from the same unless the Maharashtra Government consents to CBI investigating the case ... it would be totally illegal and beyond any known legal principles, affecting the Federal Structure of the Nation," said Maneshinde.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the CBI that is probing high profile cases of Vijay Mallya and AgustaWestland cases will now investigate the Sushant Singh Rajput's death case.

The investigating agency has registered a case against six accused including Bollywood actor Rhea Chakraborty and others in connection with the Rajput's death.

The sources in CBI said that six accused in the case will be summoned soon for questioning and other persons will also be called for examining which was earlier examined by Mumbai police.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had earlier sent a recommendation to the Central Government for CBI investigation in the case filed in Patna based on the complaint of Sushant's father KK Singh against Rhea Chakraborty under sections including abetment of suicide on July 25.

Sushant was found dead at his Mumbai residence on June 14.

Days after Rajput's death, Rhea Chakraborty said she was the "girlfriend" of the 'Dil Bechara' actor while requesting a CBI inquiry in the case.

Chakraborty has also approached the Supreme Court for transfer of investigation to Mumbai in the FIR registered against her in Patna.

Los Angeles, Mar 6: Filmmaker-writer Taika Waititi is set to direct two animated series based on Roald Dahl's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" for Netflix.

Waititi, who won an Academy Award in February for his adapted screenplay, "Jojo Rabbit", will also serve as the writer and producer on the animated series.

According to Deadline, the first series will be based on the world of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", while the second will be an original take on the Oompa-Loompa characters from the book.

The Oompa-Loompas are little humans who were preyed upon in Loompaland before Wonka invited them to work at his chocolate factory. They are paid in cocoa beans and love practical jokes and singing songs.

Netflix said the animation series would "retain the quintessential spirit and tone of the original story while building out the world and characters far beyond the pages of the Dahl book for the very first time."

The series will follow in the footsteps of Gene Wilder's 1971 portrayal of Willy Wonka and Johnny Depp's 2005 interpretation.
