Amit Shah to visit communally sensitive areas of Mangaluru on Aug 21

Mangaluru, Aug 13: In spite of his busy schedule in Uttar Pradesh and other poll-bound states, Bharatiya Janata Party national president Amit Shah will pay a visit to Managluru city and its communally sensitive suburbs on August 21.

amitEven though Dakshina Kannada district unit of BJP has claimed that Mr Shah's visit would be a part of the 70th Independence Day celebrations, it appears to be an attempt to intensify the strengthening process of the saffron party in the region aiming 2018 Assembly polls.

Interestingly, Mr Shah would address the people in two strategic and communally sensitive areas of Mangaluru constituency represented by popular Congress leader and food and civil supplies minister UT Khader.

BJP district president Sanjeeva Matandoor told media persons on Saturday that Mr Shah would arrive in the city in the wee hours. He would plant saplings near BJP office in the city and later flag off a 'Thiranga Yatra' at Mahaveer Circle.

Later, Mr Shah would visit Ullal and take part in Balidana Smarane, a programme to remember freedom fighters, who died in the struggle for Independence. He would also take part in a party workers' convention at Konaje, Mr Matandoor said adding that a detailed itinerary will be released once the programme schedule is finalised.

Union minister of statistics and programme implementation D V Sadananda Gowda, former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, other national and state leaders too will take part in the programme, he said.

I-Day celebrations

Mr Matandoor said that union minister of state for skill development and entrepreneurship (independent charge) Rajiv Pratap Rudy would participate in the 70th Independence Day celebrations of BJP district unit on August 15.

He said the party has planned various programmes in the district to celebrate 70th Independence Day as per directions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Tricolor will be unfurled at the party office in the city on August 15.

Mr Rudy would take part in the Independence celebrations to be held at T V Ramana Pai auditorium on August 15 at 3pm. BJP Yuva Morcha workers would hold torch light procession in all constituencies of Dakshina Kannada district the same day, said Mr Matandoor.

Bengaluru, May 21: Karnataka reported 116 fresh cases of coronavirus on Thursday, taking the state tally to 1578. 

So far, 570 people have been cured and discharged while 41 have succumbed to the virus, informed the state health department.

Out of the 116 cases, 71 have a history of inter-state travel history to Maharashtra.

Out of the 116 cases, 27 are from Udupi alone, 15 cases are reported from Mandya and 13 are from Hassan. Bengaluru Urban saw seven new cases.

Bengaluru, Feb 15: The new Karnataka Minister for Forest Anand Singh on Friday said that he is ready for 'change in the portfolio' as opposition parties are leveling charges against Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa for appointing him, despite having 15 cases registered under Forest Act against him.

"If Chief Minister wants to change my portfolio, I am ready," he added.

Speaking to newsmen here, he said that there are 15 cases pending against him. The Legislator from Vijayanagara in Mine rich Ballari district said anyone can go through the Chargesheets and find out whether there are any direct charges against him. Claiming that the cases against him were 'minor violations', he had earlier linked them to traffic violations by a vehicle owner.

Bengaluru, May 28: The Karnataka government has done away with previously mandatory COVID-19 testing for asymptomatic international travellers. 

The development comes a day after the government issued a circular, which allowed placing of international travellers into home quarantine if they had completed seven days of institutional quarantine.

A circular signed by Jawaid Akhtar, Additional Chief Secretary to the State Government, dated May 27, says that any “person who has completed seven days of institutional quarantine and is asymptomatic can be permitted for home quarantine with a COVID-19 test (RT-PCR), subject to undergoing a medical check-up.”

This check-up equates to thermal screening (with a required temperature of under 37.5C or 99.5F and pulse oximetry of under 94%). 

The circular added that all elderly people, over the age of 60, and those with comorbidities (such as Diabetes mellitus, hypertension, asthma, heart ailment, renal disease...etc) are “required to be clinically evaluated diligently prior to shifting them for quarantine.”

On Wednesday, Pankaj Pandey, Commissioner, the Department of Health and Family Welfare said that these new guidelines were based on recommendations from the COVID Task Force. A member of the COVID Task Force said that new strategies had been formulated based on the latest findings on how the SARS-Cov-2 virus affects people.
