Lucknow, May 17: The stories of men forcibly taking away their lovers from the wedding venues are quite common but in Uttar Pradesh's Hamirpur district a woman did exactly the opposite.betrayal

The woman allegedly kidnapped her lover from the wedding venue at Bhawani village in the district late on Monday night at gunpoint, according to the reports.

Police sources said that the woman, a resident of the neighbouring Banda district, worked at a private clinic. A youth Ashok Yadav, who also worked there, had been having an affair with the woman for the past several months.

Ashok, who had promised to marry the woman, however, backtracked and started avoiding her. His family fixed his marriage with another girl, who was a resident of Hamirpur.

Apparently perplexed at the sudden change in Ashok's behaviour, she tried to meet him to know the reason but failed in her attempts as Ashok made himself unavailable, reports said.

Enraged over Ashok's betrayal, the woman decided to kidnap him.

The groom was preparing for the wedding vows, when the woman, who carried a pistol and accompanied by three other armed youths, stormed into the wedding venue around midnight in an SUV.

She straightaway reached the 'mandap' (the place, where the bride and groom perform the rituals), took out her pistol and pointing it toward Ashok asked him to accompany her.

She threatened the guests with dire consequences when some of them tried to intervene, sources said. She sped away after bundling Ashok into the vehicle. Everything was over within a few minutes.

A case was later lodged with the police, who launched a search operation to intercept the vehicle but failed to trace it. Family members of Ashok apprehended that the woman might harm him. ''She may also force him into marrying her,'' said a relative of Ashok.
