Applying for sick leave in Dubai? It's not easy now!

Dubai, Apr 30: Work staff will no longer be able to present predated sick leave certificates to employers. The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) announced on Saturday that predated sick leave for three consecutive days or more will no longer be issued.sickl

This means sick leaves can only be given on the same day the patient visits the medical facilities and not for previous days.

The DHA urged physicians and those concerned in public and private medical facilities to abide by this new decision and refrain from giving patients predated sick leaves.

Marwan Al Mulla, the Director of the Health Planning Department at DHA said that this procedure has been implemented starting April 29, 2016 in all public and private health facilities to achieve transparency.

Al Mulla added that the electronic system 'Sharian' has been reprogrammed and no longer accepts predated sick-leaves.

Al Mulla said the authority is now working on developing system standards and guidelines of medical facilities and physicians in Dubai.

He said the Health Planning Department is working on a smart integrated electronic system that is connected to all external bodies responsible for licensing medical facilities and physicians. It is also working on developing the Dubai Health Registry project and is working on developing the licensing standards for health professionals and facilities.

Al Mulla said that the results of recent evaluations have confirmed the need to update and develop some regulations, develop electronic systems, and expand the time scale of inspections of health facilities.

As for evaluation policies and examination exemptions, he explained that currently the authority's examination is valid for one year and the examination exemptions do not include dentists as well as specialists and consultants who have certain European certificates.

Al Mulla pointed out that the authority is planning to update this policy by extending the validity of these examinations to five years instead of one year. It will also exempt dentists from the authority's assessment based on certain requirements. As part of the updated policies specialists and consultants who obtained European certificates from certain countries that include Germany, France, Sweden and Italy will also be exempted.

By updating these policies, the authority aims to facilitate the licensing procedures for doctors from developed countries and attract more professionals to work in Dubai.

Regarding the policy of licensing health professionals, currently, applications of new professionals that do not conform to the UAE State Professional Licensing Manual are rejected. The DHA is now updating this policy so that there are clear mechanisms that will allow the licensing of rare professional qualifications that are required in the emirate of Dubai to attract professionals from around the world, meet the needs of the labor market and raise the level of medical services in the Emirate.

New Delhi, Jun 5: As part of global efforts to combat COVID-19, the UAE has provided more than 708 tonnes of medical aid, personal protection kits and supplies to 62 countries, including India, with direct beneficiaries exceeding 708,000 health workers, a UAE Embassy statement said.

The UAE is regarded as the main lifeline for the logistic operations of the international organizations' strategic warehouses in Dubai's International Humanitarian City (IHC) where the UAE is the first responder to the global crises, especially in providing assistance in relation to the current COVID-19 pandemic, it said.

Dubai's IHC has dispatched more than 132 shipments to 98 countries around the world so far since the beginning of this year, and is working as a central hub to distribute the personal protection kits, the statement said.

While the UAE continues its constant work of supporting the global efforts aimed at curbing the spread of the COVID-19 disease, it has provided more than 708 tons of medical aid, personal protection kits and supplies to 62 countries worldwide to date, with direct beneficiaries exceeding 708,000 health workers, it said.

In addition, 65 million indirect beneficiaries profited from the UAE's global efforts in combating the spread of the virus, the statement said.

Meanwhile, Etihad Airways, effective June 10, said it will link 20 cities in Europe, Asia and Australia via Abu Dhabi.

The new transfer services will make it possible for those travelling on the airline's current network of special flights to connect easily through the UAE capital onwards to key global destinations.

Etihad recently launched links from Melbourne and Sydney to London Heathrow, allowing direct transfer connections to and from the UK capital via Abu Dhabi.

Easy transfer connections via Abu Dhabi will now be available from Jakarta, Karachi, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Melbourne, Seoul, Singapore, Sydney, and Tokyo to major cities across Europe including Amsterdam, Barcelona, Brussels, Dublin, Frankfurt, Geneva, London Heathrow, Madrid, Milan, Paris Charles de Gaulle, and Zurich, the airline said.

Dubai, May 5: Saudi Arabian prosecutors have ordered the arrest of a Saudi citizen for insulting an Asian expatriate and abusing him for not embracing Islam.

A video went viral online showing the expat, apparently with little knowledge of the Arabic language, being insulated by an Arabic-speaking man who does not appear in the clip, for having not embraced Islam and for not fasting.

A monitoring centre affiliated with the public prosecution examined the video the content of which “shows the citizen’s use of abusive words against the Asian resident on the pretext of inviting him to Islam,” the prosecution source said.

“The public prosecution closely follows up whatever infringes rights of citizens and residents including harm to their dignity and legal rights regardless of pretexts of such infringement,” the source added.

Dubai, Jul 28: A heart-broken father who lost his 19-year-old son in a tragic car accident during Christmas last year has sponsored the repatriation costs of 61 Indians stranded in the UAE.

 The special flydubai repatriation flight, chartered by the All Kerala Colleges Alumni Federation (Akcaf) volunteer group, of which he is a member of, departed from Dubai to Kochi on July 25 carrying 199 passengers.

 On this particular flight, I sponsored 55 air tickets," said TN Krishnakumar, a sales and marketing director. He had lost his son Rohit Krishnakumar in a car accident, which also claimed the life of the teen's friend, Sharat Kumar (21).

"All passengers who were registered with the Indian missions were also asked to register on the Akcaf volunteer group website. Each passenger was further vetted, after which we made home visits to ensure that all the applicants were genuinely in need of financial support and repatriation," he said.

Commenting on what inspired him to dedicate himself to community work, Krishankumar said: "When a situation like this comes up, you realise there is no meaning in money. I invested everything I made into my son, and that had crashed in front of my eyes. He was a third-year medical student at the University of Manchester in the UK and had returned home for a vacation when the accident took place. Since then, I have been involved in a lot of social activities. If I do not do this, there is no meaning to my existence."

Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, Krishnakumar said the group has supported thousands of individuals in need of help. "We supported unemployed people with several hundred bags of grocery kits and other necessary items. We also supported Covid-19 patients by transferring them to the medical facility in Warsan, etc.," he said.

"I come from a very middle-class family. I got a scholarship to study in college, and I studied with the help of taxpayers' money. I have always wanted to give back to society. I have grown immensely in life and now is my time to give back.," he added.

Krishnakumar also sponsors the education of over 1,000 academically gifted school children in Kerala's government-aided schools. He is a life trustee at the College of Engineering Trivandrum Alumni Galaxy Charitable Trust and an active participant towards various educational causes.
