Arvind Kejriwal's protest was an insult to country, says BJP

Arvind_KejriwalNew Delhi, Jan 24: Reacting to the Supreme Court notice to Delhi Government and Central Government over Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s recent protest at Rail Bhavan here, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday said Kejriwal’s protest was an insult to the nation and to the Indian Constitution.

“SC has issued a notice today, but I had said it on the day he held the protest that whatever he is doing is an insult to the Constitution and to the nation,” said BJP leader Harshvardhan.

Reiterating BJP’s demand for Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti’s resignation, Harshvardhan said, “Kejriwal must suspend his law minister immediately, who has insulted the women of the nation, Human Rights Commission and the judicial system. He (law minister) doesn’t believe in the law and in honest police officers. This inefficient and unconstitutional minister should be suspended immediately,

Earlier today the Supreme Court issued notice to Central Government and Delhi Government on Kejriwal’s recent protest and has asked for reply in next six weeks.

The notices were issued by the SC, which was hearing a petition filed by two SC advocates alleging that Kejriwal and his supporters defied prohibitory orders.

On Thursday, AAP leader Yogendra Yadav ruled out any action against Somnath Bharti saying the Lieutenant Governor has ordered a judicial inquiry into the matter and the report would be out in a month.

He also said that Bharti would not be resigning as the Delhi Law Minister.

Yogendra Yadav disclosed that the party investigations found no evidence to suggest that Bharti made racist comments or misbehaved with African women during the controversial midnight raid that he led at a south Delhi locality last week.

Somnath Bharti and his supporters have been accused of illegally detaining Ugandan women and forcing them to undergo medical tests.

Bharati alleged that a sex trade and drug peddling racket was flourishing in the locality with the help of foreign nationals.

He had demanded that the police should take action against the offenders.

New Delhi, Jan 16: The Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government on Thursday rejected the mercy plea of Mukesh, one of the convicts in the 2012 Nirbhaya case.

The mercy plea was then forwarded to Lieutenant Governor, who has now sent it to Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

The convicts were sentenced to death for raping a 23-year-old woman in a moving bus in the national capital on the intervening night of December 16-17, 2012.

The victim, who was later given the name Nirbhaya, had succumbed to injuries at a hospital in Singapore where she had been airlifted for medical treatment.
