New Delhi, Dec 14: Veteran Congress leader Ashok Gehlot will be the next chief minister of Rajasthan, the Congress announced on Friday ending days of suspense over the new leadership in the state.
In a delicate balancing act, young leader and state Congress President Sachin Pilot will be the deputy chief minister of Rajasthan.
AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal, who was sent as the central observer to Jaipur, made the announcements after Rahul held a series of meetings with Rajasthan leaders and held three rounds if consultations with Gehlot and Pilot.
Earlier, Rahul dropped hints if accommodating the aspirations of both the leaders by tweeting his photograph with Gehlot and Pilot sporting smiles. "The United Colours of Rajasthan," was the caption given by Rahul to the photograph.
A Congress delegation will meet Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh at 7:00 p.m. on Friday to apprise him about the election of the CLP leader and stake claim to form a government.
