Attempts to hoist separate statehood flag during Rajyotsava foiled

Kalaburagi , Nov 1: Attempt to hoist a separate statehood flag of Kalyan Karnataka by members various organisations to boycott Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations was foiled by police here city on Friday.

Members of the Hyderabad Karnataka Pratyeka Kalyan Karnataka Rajya Horata Samiti president M S Patail Naribol and a few others, who tried to break the police cordon at Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Chowk, were stopped and prevented from hoisting the flags bearing the map of the Kalyan Karnataka region.

Later, they sat on a dharna near S V Chowk and raised slogans against state government for neglecting the region and not properly implementing Article 371 (J).

MIA bomb case suspect remanded to 14 days judicial custody

Mangaluru, Feb 2: A local court on Saturday remanded Aditya Rao,the suspect in the Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) bomb case, to two weeks judicial custody.

Rao was produced before the Sixth Judicial First Class Magistrate Court after the 10-day police custody expired.

Rao has been in police custody since January 22 after he surrendered before the police in Bengaluru on January 21 and was later brought here.

He had allegedly planted an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at the airport on January 20 triggering panic and later made a hoax call to the airport terminal that a bomb had been planted in an IndiGo flight.

During the last ten days, police took the accused to several places in the city and Udupi where he had frequented in the recent past.

He was also taken to the room where he stayed while he was working at a hotel in the city.

Mangaluru: Class 10 student drowns in Adyapady dam

Mangaluru, May 20: In a gut-wrenching tragedy, a Class 10 student who was preparing for the final examinations drowned in Adyapady dam on the outskirts of the city yesterday.

The victim is Mallik, 17, a resident of Mulur village in Gurpur. The tragedy occurred when Mallik along with some others had come to the dam to catch fish.

According to the police, he accidentally slipped into the waters and drowned. His body was recovered later.

Jurisdictional Bajpe police have registered a case of unnatural death and investigations are underway.
