Baliga murder: Photographer Manujanth arrested for harbouring NaMo Naresh

Mangaluru, May 29: The Manglauru police have arrested another accused in connection with the cold blooded murder of an RTI activist, who had taken on a temple and builders. This is the fifth arrest in connection with the case.

1manjunathK Manujanth Shenoy, alias Manju Neereshwalya, (39) was arrested on Sunday on the charge of harbouring Naresh Shenoy, the prime accused in the same case. He is photographer by profession.

Naresh Shenoy, the founder of local unit of NaMo Brigade, has been absconding since the murder of 51-year-old RTI activist Vinayak Baliga.

In a press note, the police said that Manju Neereshwalya was in constant touch with Naresh Shenoy, whom the police wanted to question in connection with the murder.

The police said that Manju Neereshwalya was informing Naresh Shenoy of the developments in the case and helping him hide.

Vinayak Baliga was hacked to death near his house in Kodialbail on March 21. The police have arrested Vineet Poojary, Nishit Devadiga, Shiva, alias Shivaprasad, and Shailesh (40).

The police said that they are still looking for Naresh Shenoy.

Udupi, Aug 1: A young rider lost his life after a head-on collision between a scooter and a car on K G Road in Udupi last evening.

The deceased has been identified as Praveen Ganiga (24), a resident of Kodavoor in Malpe.

According to police Praveen was riding his scooter on the wrong side of the road. The car was plying from Brahmavar to Udupi.

The people on board car suffered minor injuries in the mishap. A case was registered at Brahmavar police station and investigations are on.

Udupi, Apr 7: The district administrations of Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts have appealed to the state government to request Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to allow COVID-19 tests at Manipal’s Kasturba Hospital.

Kasturba Hospital was granted approval by the ICMR to conduct tests on samples to detect the novel coronavirus on March 24, however it rescinded it later.

Udupi district Deputy Commissioner (DC) G Jagadeesha stated that the Council did not provide any reason for the cancellation of approval; his office has requested the Chief Secretary to pressurise the Council in granting approval again.

Mumbai, Feb 26: Maharashtra cabinet minister and Congress leader Aslam Shaikh on Wednesday said that former chief minister Devendra Fadnavis made an irresponsible statement regarding the Shiv Sena-led state government's 'silence' on AIMIM leader Waris Pathan's remark. He added that as the incident took place in Karnataka, Fadnavis should ask Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa about the matter.

"This is an irresponsible statement given by Devendra Fadnavis. He should ask the same question to the Chief Minister of Karnataka where the statement was given," Shaikh said.

"Fadnavis should ask the same question to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah that why has he not been able to control the violence going on in Delhi," he added.

Earlier, on Tuesday, targeting Shiv Sena's silence over the recent controversial remark by Waris Pathan, Fadnavis said the Uddhav Thackeray-led party might be "wearing bangles" but the BJP was not and knew how to retaliate in the same manner.

"Shiv Sena might be wearing bangles but we are not. If someone says something then he will be given an answer in the same way. BJP has this much power," said Fadnavis while launching a scathing attack on ruling-Shiv Sena in Maharashtra for not taking strict action against Pathan.

On February 20, while addressing an anti-CAA rally, at Kalaburagi in Karnataka, Pathan had said, "Time has now come for us to unite and achieve freedom. Remember we are 15 crores but can dominate over 100 crores."
