Bantwal violence: 2 including HJV leader likely to be banished from DK

Mangaluru, Sept 27: The Dakshina Kannada district administration has initiated externment proceedings against two persons, whose street-fighting had snowballed into a communal tension in Bantwal taluk in June.

Acting on a report from superintendent of police C H Sudheer Kumar Reddy, the deputy commissioner and district magistrate K G Jagadeesha has issued notices to Rathnakar Shetty and Ibrahim Khaleel.

Rathnakar Shetty, a Hindu Jagaran Vedike leader, had allegedly stabbed Khaleel on June 13 after the two brushed against each other at Kalladka and had a stare down.

Shetty in turn also filed a counter complaint against Ibrahim of having caused him hurt injuries. A case and a counter case under section 307 of IPC was booked against the duo at Bantwal Town Police Station.

Shetty, who had suffered minor injuries, had preferred to get treatment at Adarsh Hospital of Puttur instead going to a local hospital and evaded arrested for a nearly one and a half months. Khaleel, who had suffered severe injuries, had got admitted to a local hospital from where he was arrested.

Police picked up Shetty towards the end of July after having gathered evidence to prove his complicity in the riots.

The DC had issued the notice to the duo to appear before him in person on October 4 and show cause as to why they should not be externed from the district in the larger interest of protecting peace and harmony in the district.

"The notice was issued a couple of days back," the DC said adding the action has been initiated under provisions of the Karnataka Police Act. Both Rathnakar and Khaleel are rowdy sheeters, the SP said.

Bengaluru, Aug 9: karnataka's Health Minister B Sriramulu has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. He has been hospitalised and is being treated for Covid-19. The minister has also asked all of those who came in contact with him recently to take necessary precautions.

Sriramulu made the announcement in a series of tweets on Sunday. He said, “After symptoms of flu, I have tested positive for coronavirus today.”

“Under the leadership of Honorable Chief Minister (BS Yediyurappa), all the departments of the government, including my department, have been working hard against Covid-19. From the time of corona's appearance, I have had the opportunity to visit 30 districts and work in harmony with the government's desire to treat people well. It is in this backdrop that I am going to be hospitalized and treated,” B Sriramulu said.

Karnataka’s Health Minister also added, “All those who have been in contact with me recently have been requested to take precautionary measures.”

Earlier this month, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa also tested positive for Covid-19. The state's Leader of Opposition and former CM Siddaramaiah of the Congress also declared that his samples too had returned positive for the infection. Both of the leaders are undergoing treatment for Covid-19 at the privately-owned Manipal hospital in Bengaluru.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Karnataka has 79,773 active cases while a total of 89,238 patients have been discharged in the state after recovering from Covid-19 and 3091 have succumbed to it.

Bidar, Apr 2: Karnataka Health Minister B Sriramulu on Thursday confirmed that 11 people out of 27 in Bidar, who had participated in Tablighi Jamaat at Delhi's Nizamuddin Markat have been tested positive for COVID-19.

Speaking to news agency, Karnataka Health Minister said, "We are monitoring 362 people who had attended Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi. Out of 27 people from Bidar who had attended, 11 have tested positive for COVID-19, while results of 16 others are awaited. Total positive cases in the state are 121."
Meanwhile, Tablighi Jamaat's Maulana Saad has stated that he will fully support the government in its fight against the coronavirus.

This comes soon after an FIR was registered against him in connection with the religious gathering organised in Markaz Nizamuddin area of the national capital.

A huge religious gathering was held at the Markaz building in Nizamuddin between March 13-15, the event came into the spotlight after multiple coronavirus cases were confirmed amongst those who attended the event held in mid-March.

An FIR has been registered against Tablighi Jamaat head Maulana Saad and others under the Epidemic Disease Act 1897 in Delhi.
A total of 2,361 people were brought out from the Markaz in a joint operation by authorities which lasted for over 36 hours, following which the South Delhi Municipal Corporation had carried out a sanitisation of the premises and nearby area.

Bengaluru, Feb 14: After the swearing-in of ten former JDS and Congress MLAs, political boundaries seem to have become more fluid, with little clarity on who is on whose side. When Honnali BJP MLA Renukacharya visited senior Congressman DK Shivakumar at the latter’s residence, many eyebrows were raised over the reason behind the meeting. There was speculation over why Renukacharya would be meeting a man who is, in all likelihood, slated to be the next KPCC president.

Renukacharya reacted to the rumours by making the meet sound purely professional. He said, “We have a three-day Krushi Sammlan in Honnali, and I went to invite him (DKS) for it.’’   Shivakumar also remained tight-lipped over the real reason behind the meeting, and corroborated Renukacharya’s story. However, insiders claim that the two discussed other issues too. It may be recalled that Renukacharya had openly rebelled against Yediyurappa in 2009.
