Belagavi Chalo: Doctors from across Karnataka stage protest in front of Suvarna Soudha

Belagavi, Nov 13: Private medical doctors from various parts of Karnataka have launched their agitation in front of Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi on Monday, protesting against the proposed Karnataka Private Medical Establishments Bill.

Over 25,000 doctors from across the state are planning to go on a hunger strike. The doctors under the banner of Indian Medical Association objecting to the provisions to imprison doctors for alleged mistreatment, to cap prices for various kinds of services and to form a new patient grievance redressal forum at the district level.

With doctors and the paramedic staff going on strike, the outpatient service at the private hospitals across the state has been affected, causing grave hardships to the patients.

The 10-day winter session of Karnataka legislature has begun on Monday. Meanwhile. the district administration has imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC, the agitators are barred from holding demonstrations within 1 km radius of Suvarna Vidhana Soudha.

The police have erected a pandal near Suvarna Garden for the agitations. Police security has been heightened at the protest site near the Soudha.
The farmers under the banner of Rajya Raitha Sangha and the Action Committee for landless and homeless have also planned agitations in front of Suvarna Soudha.

Kannada activists, led by Vatal Nagaraj, are also protesting the Maha Melav planned by the pro-Maharashtra bodies in Belagavi.

Udupi, Feb 29: Senior Congress leader and Udupi’s crackers trader K Krishnaraja Saralaya allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a well outside his house at Paniyadi on Saturday.

He was 87, Krishnaraja was leading a solitary life. It is suspected that he ended his life ''due to mental agony''.

He is survived by two daughters. One is settled in Australia another is in Bengaluru. Saralaya had also served as President of Udupi Town Co-operative Society. The police visited the spot .

Mangaluru, Jan 7: The city police arrested a youth on charge of spreading messages against political leaders through WhatsApp and allegedly issuing life threats warnings against them.

The accused has been identified as Anwar, a resident of Peruvai village in Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada. He was working in Qatar.

On Monday, Yathish from Vittal filed a complaint and based on that police arrested Anwar.

Udupi, Jan 25: Mangalore International Airport (MIA) culprit Aditya Rao has revealed that after placing the explosive device he went to Malpe and made threat call of placing bomb in the Indigo flight.

Rao, who is in police custody, on Saturday, was brought to Malpe under tight security by the investigating officer ACP Belliyappa for spot investigation. On January 20, Aditya had come to the Mangaluru airport and planted an explosive device before going to Malpe and made a threat call about placing a bomb in the Indigo flight. He was just a couple of kilometers away from the Malpe police station while making the call.

Sitting outside an egg selling shop which opens only after 6:00 pm, Aditya had called the Airport and informed that a bomb was placed in the Indigo flight. Later he destroyed the sim card and left to Bengaluru to surrender.
