Ugandan

Bengaluru, Feb 3: A 25-year-old Ugandan woman was allegedly stabbed to death at her house in Bengaluru in a scuffle over payment for sex in the early hours of Thursday.

Nakayaki Florence was a B.Com student, and a native of Kampala in Uganda. Ishaan (28), who reportedly knifed her to death, was nabbed from her house. The incident took place between 1.30 and 2 am at her second floor house in Thimmegowda Layout, near the Kothanur bus stand. Police said she was involved in the flesh trade, a charge members of her community believe diverts the case.

Ishaan, a native of Himachal Pradesh, told the police he was an M.Tech looking for a job in Bengaluru. He worked as a part-time tutor and was a paying guest in BTM?Layout, the police said. Ishaan met Nakayaki on Brigade Road, and struck a deal for Rs 5,000 to visit her house, a police source said, quoting Ishaan. She demanded Rs 10,000 as he had stayed longer than agreed, Ishaan purportedly told the police.

This resulted in a quarrel. Both were drunk, and Nakayaki grabbed a knife and charged at Ishaan, injuring his hand, according to the police. Ishaan then snatched it from her and stabbed her four or five times, killing her instantly. Hearing the commotion, the landlady rushed to the second floor and locked the door from outside, trapping Ishaan inside.

“We have already established that he (Ishaan) killed the victim, and prima facie, there is clear-cut circumstantial evidence,” said P S Harsha, Deputy Commissioner of Police, North-East Division. However, he did not divulge details, saying the investigation was in progress.

Since it was a murder involving a foreigner, a large number of policemen rushed to the area. People from several African countries had gathered at the spot and were seeking access to Ishaan. The police caned the crowd and whisked him away around 3 am. Soon a platoon of KSRP personnel arrived. The police have booked some Africans for assault, a policeman said.

An association of Africans took objection to the way the city police approached the case. “How can the police come out with conclusive statements that the victim was in the flesh trade and the cause of murder was money over unlawful activity? This is victimising the victim further,” said Bosco Kaweesi, legal adviser, All African Students in Bengaluru.

The fact of the case is that someone went to Nakayaki's house at night and murdered her, he said. “Let the police probe the case impartially,” Kaweesi urged. Three officials from the Ugandan High Commission, besides the Ugandan ambassador to India , will be coming to Bengaluru on Friday, said Bosco Kaweesi.

charan anna , india cannot do that bro .. because indians and indian companies including govt companies have billions of investments in african countries , now china and india competing in africa for natural reserves , infrastructure development , factories , health care etc .. indians mega parallel economies in africa from kenya to tanzania , mauritius to ghana and nigeria .. and also millions of indians working in africa in projects . so this type of decision of blocking will create negative impact . In ethipopia in congo ,indians do farming in mega scale . best solution is deporting the students on case o case basis .

Jun 19: BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday said Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray should sign an agreement with neighbouring Karnataka to avoid a repeat of flood in part of the state like it happened in August last year.

In August 2019, Kolhapur, Sangli districts and some other parts of the state faced unprecedented floods triggered by huge release of water from dams in western Maharashtra and from the Almatti dam in Karnataka.

Fadnavis said, The Maharashtra chief minister should hold an urgent meeting with the Karnataka chief minister and enter into an agreement over-discharge of water from the Almatti dam located on the border of both the states."

If water is not released from the Almatti dam in time, it will cause flooding in border areas of Maharashtra such as Kolhapur and Sangli.

"A pact between the two states would benefit both as it would help in keeping water levels in control, the former chief minister said.

The dams in the state already have sizeable water stock. It would be better if the chief minster schedules a meeting with the Karnataka chief minister regarding the same (agreement), the Leader of Opposition in the assembly said.

Bengaluru, Feb 29: Gangster Ravi Poojary, who was arrested from Senegal earlier this week, and is being interrogated by the Cental Crime Branch (CCB) police, wants to evade the Mumbai police for any kind of inquiry. Claiming that there is a serious threat to his life, he is believed to have told his investigators that he should not be sent there. Poojary is being grilled by the CCB for his alleged involvement in numerous cases.

“He is aware that he will be given to the custody of Mumbai police as he had committed several crimes before fleeing India and also made hundreds of extortion calls to the well-heeled there. Hence, he has started requesting us not to send him to Mumbai. He claimed that he has many rivals there and they may go to any extent to get him killed,” a source said. Poojary was once an associate of dreaded underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.

Poojary has little option but to face Mumbai cops

Poojary had left Dawood’s gang and had joined Chhota Rajan, who split from D-Company and established his own network. There were also attempts by Dawood’s men to assassinate Rajan on a few occasions. During his days in Mumbai, Poojary was also reportedly facing threats from Dawood and other gangsters. “Since Poojary had jumped bail in the murder case of a gangster in Mumbai and f l e d the country, he has no option but to face trial again. Besides, he has made over a hundred extortion calls to businessmen and celebrities in Mumbai in the last two decades.

It’s inevitable for him to face inquiry by the Mumbai police,” an official said. “Now that he knows his options are limited, he is requesting us not to send him to Mumbai under any circumstance, claiming that he faces a serious threat to his life by Dawood’s aides and others. However, when we are done with questioning him, and if Mumbai police approach the court, it will decide whether to give him to their custody or not,” the official added. Poojary, who was brought to India on February 24, has been remanded to police custody till March 7. The police are likely to seek extension of his custody as he is facing close to 100 cases in Karnataka.

Cases filed in 4 states the gangster, originally from Malpe in Dakshina Kannada, has cases against him in Kerala, Maharashtra, and Gujarat. At least 46 cases are registered in Bengaluru alone.
