Bengaluru, Oct 9: A woman riding pillion was killed on the spot and the rider injured after they fell off their two-wheeler while trying to negotiate a pothole-ridden road at Pantharapalya near Nayandanhalli on Sunday morning. The woman was run over by an oncoming truck.

The deceased has been identified as Radha Anjanappa (47), from Shampura, near Arabic College, Nagawara, east Bengaluru. The injured is her nephew Ravi Kumar (24). Radha's body was shifted to Victoria Hospital for postmortem and handed over to her family members. The Byatarayanapura traffic police have arrested truck driver Ramesh and seized the vehicle.

This is the third road death caused by potholes in Bengaluru in a week. On the night of October 2, a bus had run over scooterborne JJ Nagar residents Anthony Joseph, 55, and wife Sagai Mary, 53, when they were negotiating a pothole on Mysuru Road flyover. The Mysuru Road stretch where Sunday accident occurred comes under BMRCL.

Byatarayanapura traffic police said Ravi tried to avoid potholes and swerved right when a lorry brushed against the two-wheeler around 10.30am. Kumar lost control and crashed to his left, and his aunt Radha to the right. The lorry's left front wheel ran over Radha's neck. She died instantly. Radha and Kumar were wearing helmets. Passersby caught truck driver Totian Ramesh, from Tamil Nadu, and thrashed him before handing him over to police. The traffic police, who had rushed to the spot, took Ramesh into custody.

"The accident stretch is in a bad state, damaged further by Namma Metro construction. The condition of the road might have been one of the main reasons for the accident," Shiva Kumar, DCP (traffic west) said. "There is no passing the buck. We'll pay Rs 5 lakh relief to the woman's family," mayor N Sampath Raj, who visited the spot, said

Bengaluru, Apr 24: The Karnataka Health Department is likely to shift the 119 accused in Padarayanapura violence to Bengaluru's Haj Bhavan from Ramnagar Jail.

This comes after two accused out of 121, who were shifted to Ramnagar jail, tested positive for coronavirus. They have been shifted to Victoria Hospital.

A ruckus erupted in Padarayanapura on Sunday allegedly over the shifting of 15 secondary contacts of corona positive patients to a quarantine facility by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials.

Padarayanapura is recognised as a 'red zone'. When BBMP officials went to shift the suspected COVID-19 patients, some people created a ruckus, broke a barricade and removed the police post in the area.
