Bengaluru, Sept 23: Yashaswini Mahesh Gowda alias Muniyamma, the first female rowdy-sheeter of Bengaluru, has finally found a suitable platform to “legalize” her activities: She has been appointed as the president of the women’s wing of the Sri Rama Sene.

40-year-old Yashaswini faces different criminal charges, including attempt to murder. She is a rowdy-sheeter with Subramanyapura police in south Bengaluru. She had made headlines when she escaped from a private hospital in May 2016. After evading police for 112 days, Yashaswini finally surrendered.

Yashaswini runs her ‘business’ from home along with her husband and brothers. Her ‘clientele’ are mostly middle class and lower middle class women who easily fall prey to her alleged Shylockian ways of money lending.

The mother of two moved to Bengaluru a few years ago along with her history-sheeter husband Mahesh alias Dadiya Mahesha.

Yashwaswini and her husband stay in Subramanyapura. Her husband is a native of Kanakapura and has a history sheet against him in JP Nagar police station. The couple started their ‘business’ in alleged crimes in 2012. A case of chain snatching, robbery and extortion was filed on August 3, 2012 against Yashaswini. She also has two cases of chain snatching and 10 cases registered in JP Nagar against her. She then resorted to ‘meter-baddi’ business.

“Every single person who has borrowed money from her dreads not repaying it. The kind of language she uses and her way of dealing with recovery scares them,” said a police officer.

A video showing Sri Rama Sene chief Pramod Muthalik electing Yashaswini to the post at a ceremony at a private hotel went viral online, with many criticising him. Muthalik justified Yashaswini’s appointment, saying she is still an accused and not a convict.

“Yashaswini requested us to give her a chance to work for the organisation and we agreed. Don’t we see that many politicians and social activists, who face criminal charges, serving society in different capacities?” questioned Mutalik, who is also facing several criminal cases.

Yashaswini said she was happy about the new post. “In the past, I had got an inspector suspended by filing a complaint against him about dereliction of duty. He is responsible for my name being added in the history sheet. I will now challenge this legally and come out clean. Just because my name is on this list, should I refrain from social service,” she asked.

“I am sure of coming out clean from the court cases. I will protect our women and ensure Hindutva is upheld,” said Yashaswini, who according to police has so far assaulted at least two dozen (Hindu) women in in several areas, as her business is widespread.

Bengaluru, Jun 15: As the central government has not allowed reopening of gyms in the country amid COVID-19 pandemic, many gymnasiums in Bengaluru are on the verge of closing or sale.

Rakshith Gowda, a gym owner and secretary of gym owners association told ANI that they are not even able to pay rent of the premises which is Rs 60,000 to 1 lakh per month.

"The condition of the owners of the gym have worsened. We have to pay a minimum of Rs 60,000 - 100,000 rent of the building and for past 4 months we couldn't pay the rent, salary to trainers and cleaners, EMI," Gowda said.

"I urge the government to take necessary steps to bring up the gym sector as they have allowed opening up of shops, temples, malls. We urge the government to take proper steps in the interest of gyms," added Gowda.

Mahesh, a gymer said that he had to participate in a competition and due to lockdown he could not work on his bodybuilding.

"I was building my body for one year and due to lockdown I couldn't do the workout, I had to take part in a competition, now I need at least another one year to build my body back," Mahesh said.

Prasad, international bodybuilder said, "Most of the bodybuilders and gym owners are running gyms by taking loans, they are not in the situation to pay their loan EMIs."

"It's very important for us to reopen gyms and run them with all precautions and guidelines but the government is not allowing us to pay our loans and many gym owners and trainers are facing a tough time to earn living. We have requested Deputy Chief Minister Govind Karjol and cabinet ministers to allow us to open, but the government hasn't taken the decision in the interest of gyms which is creating more problems for us," Prasad said.

New Delhi, Feb 3: BJP MP Anantkumar Hegde's swipe at Mahatma Gandhi has irked the top party leadership and he may be forced to apologise, party sources said on Monday.

A senior BJP leader said the Karnataka leader's comments were "condemnable" and the party leadership is upset with him.

"The party has conveyed its displeasure to him and asked him to take remedial measure. Any insult to Mahatma Gandhi is unacceptable," he said.

Hegde, a former Union minister, reportedly claimed at an event in Bangaluru that the entire freedom movement was staged with the consent and support of the British, and the independence movement led by Gandhi was a "drama".

He also wondered why the Father of the Nation was called 'Mahatma' (a great soul).

The party leader said the Lok Sabha MP is a "disciplined" member of the party and will do what he has been asked to.

Hegde, known for hardline Hindutva leanings, has a history of making controversial remarks.

This man and some others like him have reached the peak of their madness.

They will not change their attitude, as they know that nobody can do any harm to them.

Therefore they will listen only to dire action what they deserve per the penal code. If required put him behind bars.

Dont harm them more, see their families.

Bengaluru, July 31: Denying irregularities in covid-19 equipment purchase by the Karnataka government, the state unit of the BJP has issued legal notices to Congress leaders Siddaramaiah and D K Shivakumar demanding that they apologize or face a defamation suit.

The notices seek a public apology for the allegations levelled against the government on irregularities in the procurement of Covid-19 equipment and supplies.

Both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar, the Karnataka Congress president, have been doggedly pursuing allegations of corruption against the BJP government and have demanded a judicial inquiry.

BJP general secretary N Ravi Kumar said that while the Congress leaders claimed that Rs 4,157 crore was spent during Covid-19, they also allege that the government has not responded to any of the 20 letters written by them. "If the government has not provided any answer to the Opposition, where did they get the figures from," he said.

None of the allegations of corruption is specific and the statements made are factually incorrect. "These statements, without any basis, have been issued calculatedly to lower the image and damage the reputation of the government, the Bharatiya Janata Party, representatives of the party and the ministers in the government," the notice issued on behalf of Ravi Kumar read.
