Bidar villagers boycott polls over dumping of solid waste

Bidar, Apr 23: Electorates of Sultanpur village in Bidar taluk of the District boycotted Polling in protest against the solid waste from Bidar city being dumped near their village.

According to the official sources, the people have been protesting against it for several years now. Since their demand for shifting the waste dump was ignored they boycotted the election in protest. Though some officers visited the village and tried to convince the Voters none came forwarded to vote.

Polling was also boycotted in Chitagihal in Kurgodu Taluk, Mutgur in Hagari Bommanahalli taluk and Chikkajayanur in Kampli taluk.

Madikeri, Jun 9: A rare Rurk’s Ristella Skink was found by some wildlife enthusiasts on their way to Madapur in Kodagu district.

Ristella Rurkii, commonly known as Rurk’s Ristella, is a species of skink endemic to the Western Ghats of Southern India. It is a small, insectivorous, diurnal skink found in Shola grasslands and rain forests of hills ranges in parts of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

The specific name, rurkii, is in honour of “Dr Rurk” who collected the type specimen in the Annamalai Hills, High Ranges, Travancore, and the Palani Hills, of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. It is endemic to rainforests South of Palghat Gap.

Puttur, May 9: City based Team B-Human today distributed Ramadan kits among 70 families in Koodu Raste Jamaat and 30 families in Papetthadka Jamaat in Puttur taluk. 

This was the second phase of Ramadan kit distributions carried out by the Team B-Human. So far the team distributed Ramadan kits among 200 families in three different Jamaat.

Koodu Raste Juma Masjid Khateeb Yaqoob Darimi offered dua before distribution.  Team B-Human members Ashraf Aina group, Althaf, Shia Deals, Ahnaf Deals, Abdul Shukoor Haji, and E-Friends founder president Imtiyaz Perla, Saleem U B of Youth Congress, Juma Masjid president P K Mohammad Shafi Papettadka were present. 

A release issued by the Team B-Human sated that it distributed food among 35,000 people since April 23. The beneficiaries include a large number of migrant workers irrespective of their caste and religion. It also arranged Iftar and Suhoor for around 450 stranded migrants every day.

Asif Deals, found of Team B-Human, said that in next phases more Ramadan kits will be distributed among needy families in some jamaats.

United Marine Products, Karnataka and Goa has been awarded the MPEDA (Marine Products Export Development Authority) best exporter award for outstanding export performance of 2017-18 and second best exporter of 2018-19 from the govt of India under the category   "Fishmeal, Fish oil and Allied products." held at Grand Hyatt, LuLu convention center, Kochi.
 
The award was conferred in the presence of Central Minister for state, commerce and Industry Mr Som Parkash and Honourable minister for fisheries, govt of Kerala Mercy kutty Amma. Mr Muhammad Sameer, Managing Partner, received the award.
