Bihar minister calls Smriti Irani 'dear', sparks war of words

June 14, 2016

New Delhi, Jun 14: Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani and Bihar Education Minister Ashok Choudhary were today locked in a bitter war of words on Twitter after the Congress leader addressed her as "dear".irani

Issues of etiquette in official communication also cropped up during the barrage of tweets unleashed against each other.

Choudhary in a tweet today referred to the Human Resources Development(HRD) minister as "Dear" Smriti Irani ji and said that rather than focus on politics and speeches, she should pay attention to the New Education Policy (NEP).

Irani, who is currently touring Bihar, shot back asking Choudhary that since when did he begin addressing women as "dear". "Mahilaon ko 'dear' keh ke kab se sambodhit karne lage Ashokji?"

Choudhary, who is also the state president of Congress, responded that it was "Not to disrespect but educate... Professional emails start with "dear"." In his tweet, he asked Irani to answer the real issue and not "circle around it."

"@AshokChoudhaary all my communications to you or any other person start with 'adarniya', but since you are now communicating allow me 1/3," Irani said in another tweet.

The senior BJP leader further told the Bihar minister that his state's views on education policy had not been provided and "neither did you in your 1 on 1 meeting with me give any suggestions".

She claimed that Bihar is possibly the only state which has not done grassroot consultations for the education policy.

Yadav, however, launched a counter-attack, tweeting, "@smritiirani ji has learnt a lot from Modiji...Fake promises and shifting blames to others for non-delivery is lesson1 in Sangh's book."

Choudhary also wanted the minutes of his meeting with Irani be made public so that "Doodh ka doodh, paani ka paani ho jayega (the truth comes out in the open)."

Irani again fired another tweet, saying "Sir I hope you do find time in your busy schedule to contribute to the education policy. Await state feedback."

The Bihar minister then responded with a jibe, tweeting "Thx for the high honor, glad to know delivery and non- delivery of NEP is on me. Hope Modiji shares the credit with me too."

The battle of the ministers did not stop there with Irani asking the Bihar minister to "fill 2 lac teacher vacancies, land for KVs, CU Motihari."

Choudhary responded, saying "I know how to deliver on my promises. Request you to deliver on what you have promised".

The war of words erupted on a day when Irani was on a visit to Bhagalpur in connection with "Vikash Parv" observed by BJP-led NDA on completion of two years in the office at the Centre.

As Irani insisted that Bihar government give its views on the policy, Choudhary claimed having posted a link of the consultations.

"Seems @smritiirani ji isn't aware her ministry's website mentions consultation with eastern zone including Bihar," he posted.

Irani responded, "@AshokChoudhaary we invited Sir neither minister nor secretary education turned up. Entire proceedings were videographed. Plz."

Choudhary, however, maintained that he had shared the HRD ministry's link of the consultations.

Irani too continued to hit out saying "@AshokChoudhaary would you rather Sir that I don't consult Bihar, if that is your stand then I shall comply though with a sense of regret."

The twitter war continued with supporters from both sides retweeting the comments of both leaders and also making their own remarks.

Last month, Irani was involved in a bitter fight with another Congress leader Priyanka Chaturvedi.

In a post on twitter, Chaturvedi appeared to be taking another potshot.
"Oh DEAR UP ki BJP ki CM umeedwari se naam disappear How to stay in the news? Simple! Let's blow my fuse!" Chaturvedi posted.

Washington, Jun 11: Music maestro AR Rahman has joined the international film 'No Land's Man' as co-producer and composer.

Helmed by renowned Bangladeshi filmmaker Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, the upcoming movie has Indian thespian Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Australian theatre actor Megan Mitchell, and Bangladeshi musician and actor Tahsan Rahman Khan in pivotal roles.

"Time always gives birth to new worlds, new ideals. The newborn world has new challenges and new stories to tell. This is one such story," Variety quoted Rahman as saying.

The movie chronicles the life of a South Asian, whose journey gets complicated when he meets an Australian woman in the U.S.

The film, shot in the U.S., Australia and India, is predominantly in English with some dialogue in Hindi and Urdu.

'Sacred Games' actor, Siddique said: "The filming experience for this project was challenging but a fulfilling one. AR Rahman's brilliance will definitely make the film richer."

"Farooki and I first spoke about 'No Land's Man' at Film Bazaar in 2014. Between then and now, the film has become even more relevant as it looks at what it means to be a vulnerable person in a racially-divided world," producer Srihari Sathe said.

'No Land's Man' won the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) and Asia Pacific Screen Awards' Script Development fund in 2014. It was part of the Asian Project Market at Busan and was chosen as the best project at India's Film Bazaar the same year.

Earlier in January, Siddiqui posted multiple pictures on Instagram with the team of the flick, marking the schedule wrap in New York and Sydney for 'No Land's Man.'

He also captioned the post as: "Wonderful experience with the most energetic team."

New Delhi, Jan 11: The Delhi High Court on Saturday restrained from releasing Deepika Padukone-starrer 'Chhapaak' movie without due credits to the lawyer who represented the acid attack survivor, Lakshmi Agarwal, in her legal battle.

The restraint will be effective from January 15 in multiplexes and live streaming and for others from January 17.

The court directed filmmaker Meghna Gulzar to give due credit to lawyer Aparna Bhat who fought the criminal case for the acid survivor on whose life the movie is based.

It passed the order on a petition filed by Fox Studio challenging a trial court order which had directed the filmmakers to give credit to Bhat.

Delhi's Patiala House Court had earlier this week passed an order granting an ex-parte interim mandatory injunction directed that the filmmaker has to carry a line "Aparna Bhat continues to fight cases of sexual and physical violence against women" during the screening of the film.

Fox Studios then requested the Delhi High Court to set aside the trial court order.

The petitioner submitted that if the order passed in a suit filed just one day before the release of the film, is not vacated, varied or modified, then the petitioner will suffer grave injustice and irreparable harm and injury.

The movie, which hit the cinemas yesterday, is based on Laxmi's life. In 2005, at the age of 15, she was allegedly attacked by a spurned lover.

Laxmi had to undergo several surgeries. Later, she started helping other acid attack survivors and promoted campaigns to stop such gruesome attacks.

Mumbai, Jul 18: Filmmaker and Yash Raj Films (YRF) chairman Aditya Chopra on Saturday recorded his statement with the Mumbai Police in connection with actor Sushant Singh Rajput death case, an official said.

Police have sought information about a contract signed between Rajput and YRF from Chopra who visited Versova police station this morning and left after four hours, the official said.

The "Chhichore" actor, 34, was found hanging at his apartment in Mumbai on June 14. No suicide note was found from the spot by the police.

The police are investigating allegations that professional rivalry, besides clinical depression, drove the actor to suicide.

Police are also trying to understand the reason behind Rajput ending his contract with YRF, the official said.

Earlier, the police had recorded statement of YRF's casting director Shanoo Sharma.

The police had recorded statements of 34 persons, including Rajput's family members and close friends like actors Rhea Chakraborty and Sanjana Sanghi, in connection with the case.

Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Friday dismissed the need for a CBI probe into the death case of Rajput, saying the Mumbai police are capable of handling the matter.

On Thursday, Rhea Chakraborty demanded a CBI inquiry to understand what "pressures" prompted Rajput to take the extreme step of suicide.

Rajput starred in films such as Shuddh Desi Romance', Raabta, Kedarnath and Sonchiriya. But his most prominent role came as cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the biopic, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story.
