Mudigere, Apr 30: Energy Minister D K Shivakumar said the BJP, which is up to changing the Constitution, is detrimental to the survival of the country.

Speaking at an election campaign held in Adyantaya Rangamandira here on Sunday, he dared the BJP to reveal the facilities it has given to farmers during its tenure.

“The BJP has been projecting ‘Anna Bhagya’ as the programme of the Union government,” he charged.

“Mudigere is a constituency reserved for Scheduled Caste. The BJP leaders should ask themselves whether the Union government has provided any scheme for Dalits,” he wanted to know.

MLC Ugrappa said that the BJP has been claiming that India will be made Congress free.

“It is impossible even if hundreds of Modis and Amit Shahs come together. If democracy and secularism have to survive in India, one has to build a country free of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah.”

Party leader Mukhyamantri Chandru said that the Congress-led state government has fulfilled 161 of the 165 promises made in the election manifesto. The party should come to power at the Centre in the upcoming General Elections, he said.

Congress candidate Motamma said the Assembly election will be her final election. “I aspire to strive for the development of farmers,” she said.

Former MLC Gayatri Shanthegowda and Block Congress President U H Hemashekhar were present.

Visit to Balehonnur

Shivakumar visited Rambhapuri Peeta at Balehonnur and received the blessings of seer Veerasomeshwara Shivacharya Swami.

He came to the Peeta on a helicopter from Mudigere and directly proceeded to Kshetranatha Veerabhadraswamy temple at the Peeta. He performed a special puja at the temple and visited Jagadguru Renukacharya Mandir where he met the seer.

MLC V S Ugrappa, Sringer constituency Congress candidate T D Rajegowda, Dr Amshumanth, M S Channakeshav, M J Mahesh Achar, M S Arunesh and C K Srinivas were present.

Later, he sought vote for Congress candidate T D Rajegowda at a public meeting.
