Sakleshpur, May 2: Former MLC and BJP leader B.R. Gurudev has reportedly announced his support for the Janata Dal (Secular) in the Assembly elections. Mr. Gurudev, a Lingayat leader, has a support base in Sakleshpur constituency.
He is said to have promised his support to the regional party during a meeting with JD(S) leader H.D. Revanna, Sakleshpur MLA H.K. Kumaraswamy, JD(S) State vice-president B.A. Jagannath and other leaders at his residence at Ballupete in Sakleshpur taluk on Tuesday.
Though Mr. Gurudev is with the BJP, he has not campaigned for the party’s candidate, Narve Somashekhar, since he was declared candidate.
Mr. Revanna and other leaders, who were in the village to take part in a religious programme, visited Mr. Gurudev’s house and discussed politics. Later, speaking to presspersons, Mr. Gurudev said the meeting was cordial and should not be given a political colour. However, Mr. Revanna said Mr. Gurudev had agreed to support the JD(S).
