BJP MLA terms bifurcation of Ballari as 'selfish' move

Ballari , Sept 28: The proposal of the BS Yediyurappa-led government on bifurcating Ballari district, to carve out a new district called "Vijayanagara" was not acceptable and Chief Minister B S Yedyurappa should immediately call all BJP MLAs in the district, before taking any steps in this regard, Ballari BJP MLA G Somashekhar Reddy said here on Saturday.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr Reddy said that any move on bifurcating of Ballari district was opposed by all four BJP MLAs in the district and only appeasing disqualified MLA Anand Singh, was not good for the future of Ballari.

The BJP MLA described the move as "selfish" and requested Mr Yediyurappa not to agree it.

Belagavi, Apr 12: Karnataka police have filed cases against seven people for hiding their visit to Delhi for attending a religious congregation at Nizamuddin Mosque, last month, police said on Sunday.

The Commissioner office here, in a statement said that Hirebagewadi police filed cases against seven persons including one participant and his family members and Tablighi leader for hiding information regarding participation in the religious meeting 'Tablighi Jamaat ' at Nizamuddin in New Delhi in March.

A youth from the Hirebagewadi village had visited New Delhi and hidden information about his visit and misguiding the Task Force officials when they visited his house. COVID-19 Task Force and Model officials informed the matter to Hirebagewadi police.

Bengaluru, Jun 23: Karnataka Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar's wife and daughter have tested positive for COVID-19, a day after his father was confirmed to have been infected with the virus.

"Test results of our family members have come. Unfortunately, my wife and daughter have tested positive for #Covid19 and are undergoing treatment," the minister tweeted on Tuesday.

He said he and his two sons have tested negative.

Sudhakar's father P N Keshava Reddy tested positive for coronavirus on Monday. He was admitted to the hospital with a cough and fever.

Earlier, the domestic help of the minister had tested coronavirus positive and was admitted to a hospital.

In April, Sudhakar was quarantined along with three other ministers for coming in contact with a journalist who was coronavirus positive.

Karnataka reported 249 new COVID-19 cases and five deaths on Monday taking the total number of cases in the state to 9,399 and the death toll to 142.

Bengaluru, Aug 4: The Central Crime Branch-Bengaluru conducted raids at 35 locations in Hennur and Banaswadi areas on Tuesday morning and arrested seven foreign nationals without valid passports and visas.

The Crime Branch also recovered fake currency during the raid, which is currently underway, informed the police.
