BJP supremo Amit Shah to visit Mangaluru on Oct 4

Mangaluru, Sept 26: Bharatiya Janata Party national president Amit Shah will hold a meeting of party senior leaders in Mangaluru on October 4.

The coastal city has become a political hotbed with the recent communal incidents.

According to sources, Mr. Shah will review the progress of various organisational programmes suggested by him during his last visit to the State in August.

The meeting is being held in Mangaluru as Mr. Shah will be touring Kerala from the next day, a senior party leader said.

All top leaders of the party State unit, including members of the core committee and office-bearers, are expected to take part in the meeting.

Congress opposing CAA to keep vote bank intact: S L Bhyrappa

Mysuru, Jan 11: Accusing the Congress and other opposition parties of pursuing “vote bank politics” on the Citizenship (Amendment ) Act (CAA), Kannada littérateur and Saraswathi Samman awardee S L Byrappa accused the party of misleading the people on the issue.

Speaking to media persons here on Friday, Mr Bhyrappa said that Congress was adopting the divide and rule policy of the British, who had created a rift between the Hindus and the Muslims to break their unity during the freedom struggle.

Udupi District public library digitizes books in the wake of corona lockdown

Udupi, May 2: During the lockdown period the Department of Public Library digitised more books to the Karnataka Digital Public Library (KDPL).

According to the data released by the KDPL issued here on Saturday , as on April 29, 89,239 people from the State have already registered for the digital library. From these 1,807 are from Dakshina Kannada district and 605 from the Udupi district.

The digital library already has a repository of 35,500 e-books, 4,800 videos, 59,980 e-journals and 1,112 items for children.

Writer Richie John Pais bags best Konkani book award

Udupi, Jan 22: Writer Richie John Pais will be conferred with the Best Konkani Book Award, instituted by Dr T M A Foundation in recognition of his contribution made to Konkani Language and Literature.

According to a statement, the Award carries Rs 10,000 in cash and a citation.

‘Fathor’, a collection of Konkani short stories authored by Richie John Pais was published in 2017 has been chosen for the Dr TMA Foundation Best Konkani Book Award 2018.
