New Delhi, May 29: Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s jibe at BJP’s “troll army” before accompanying his mother Sonia Gandhi for a medical checkup in the US, invited a sharp rebuke from the BJP on Monday, asking him to ensure that Karnataka got a “working government” first.

Rahul, late Sunday night, announced his plans to accompany Sonia for her annual medical checkup. Often targeted by the BJP over his foreign visits, Rahul had a message – don’t get too worked up...I’ll be back soon”.

“Will be out of India for a few days, accompanying Sonia ji to her annual medical check up. To my friends in the BJP social media troll army: don’t get too worked up...I’ll be back soon,” the Congress chief said before heading out to the US.

The BJP hit back at Rahul on Twitter asking him to ensure that a “working government” was in place in Karnataka before he left for foreign shores.

“We wish well for Sonia ji’s health. Women of Karnataka also await Cabinet formation so that the state Govt can start serving them. Can you ensure Karnataka gets a working Govt before you leave,” the BJP said on its Twitter handle.

The Cabinet expansion in Karnataka has been stuck in endless parleys between alliance partners Congress and the JD(S).

JD(S) president H D Kumaraswamy and Karnataka Pradesh Congress President G Parameshwara were sworn-in as chief minister and deputy chief minister on Wednesday last but the coalition partners were yet to agree on the allotment of portfolios.

The Congress, a senior partner in the alliance, has been insisting on a lion’s share in the government with the JD(S) also digging in its heels. An exasperated Kumaraswamy had on Sunday said he was at the “mercy” of the Congress and not the 6.5 crore people of Karnataka as his party had not received the full mandate in the recent assembly elections.

Dubai, May 5: Saudi Arabian prosecutors have ordered the arrest of a Saudi citizen for insulting an Asian expatriate and abusing him for not embracing Islam.

A video went viral online showing the expat, apparently with little knowledge of the Arabic language, being insulated by an Arabic-speaking man who does not appear in the clip, for having not embraced Islam and for not fasting.

A monitoring centre affiliated with the public prosecution examined the video the content of which “shows the citizen’s use of abusive words against the Asian resident on the pretext of inviting him to Islam,” the prosecution source said.

“The public prosecution closely follows up whatever infringes rights of citizens and residents including harm to their dignity and legal rights regardless of pretexts of such infringement,” the source added.

Given the constraints being faced by the district hospital in Kanhangad near here, the 200-beded Kasaragod medical college hospital in Ukkinada near here would be equipped to cater to the Covid-19 patients on isolation.

The ten member medical experts who reached here late on Sunday, are on a special mission to immediately equip the hospital as to convert it as a Covid-19 centre.

Bengaluru, May 20: Karnataka Congress leaders held a protest against the state government against amending of APMC Act, at the premises of Vidhan Soudha here.

Few days ago, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa had said that the new amendment in the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) Act will substantially aid the farmers in getting remunerative price for their produce.

"Amendment will not dilute the powers of the work of the APMCs. All these marketing activities will be monitored by the Directorate of State APMC. This new amendment Act will benefit farmers in improving their income & suffering from losses due to market fluctuations," the Karnataka CM tweeted.

Yediyurappa further said that the amendment will indirectly help farmers in doubling their income by 2022.

"This amendment will indirectly help farmers in doubling their income by 2022. I want to clarify that we have not removed the APMC Act, we are only amending 2 sections of the APMC Act which enable farmers to sell their produce at the markets where they intend to," he tweeted.
