Bollywood stars disappointed over SC verdict on homosexuality

Mumbai, Dec 12: Bollywood celebrites today voiced disappointment over the Supreme Court verdict that criminalised homosexuality, calling it "violative of basic human rights".

Hollywood actress and human rights activist Mia Farrow also joined the stars in slamming the judgment, saying it was a "very dark day" for freedom and human rights in India.

"I am most disappointed with this judgement. It feels very intolerant and violative of basic human rights. It's a shame," superstar Aamir Khan said in a statement.

Actor John Abraham tweeted: "India has harboured archaic prejudices once again... The Supreme Court has criminalized homosexuality... Shame."

Filmmaker Onir, who has been vocal about gay rights, said it was a sad day for Indian democracy. "I am angry by the SC ruling on IPC 377. Very very disappointed that the bench of the Supreme Court hold us to regressive colonial 153-year-old IPC 377. A dark day for the history of judiciary and human rights in India," Onir said.

The 'My brother Nikhil' director added: "A sad day for democracy where the SC bench denies the LGBT community its constitutional rights to equality and protection against discrimination."

Actor-director Farhan Akhtar tweeted: "The Supreme Court got it wrong today. Sec377."

Farrow criticised the judgement in a series of tweets. "Very dark day for freedom and human rights as Indian Supreme Court rules to criminalize homosexuality. Canceled trip to India," tweeted the star of 'Rosemary's Baby' and in a sarcastic note added, "My wife and I would not feel welcome there."

"Well- when I have a wife- we won't be going to India. Cancelled trip to India. My wife and I would not feel welcome there," she added.

Mumbai, Aug 7: Bhojpuri actress Anupama Pathak has died allegedly by suicide in Dahisar East, her Mumbai residence on August 2.

The police have recovered a suicide note.

Initially, an accidental death case was registered which was later converted into FIR under section 306 (abetment of suicide) of IPC against a person and a company, the police said.

Further investigation by Mumbai's Kashimira Police is underway.

New Delhi, Jun 22: Musician Madonna, who is a mother of six, wished herself on the occasion of Father's Day on Sunday by posting adorable pictures with her kids.

Along with pictures, the 'Crazy For You' singer penned down a beautiful caption, wishing herself and every parent a 'Happy Father's Day' for nurturing and guiding their children in the best way possible.

"Happy Fathers Day to Me and to every parent out there doing their best to Nurture, Guide, Inspire, and Teach! #Lola #Rocco #David #Mercyjames #Estere #Stella," the 61-year-old singer wrote in the caption.

Madonna is the biological mother to two of her six children and has adopted the rest four.

She had adopted her first child Davida Banda back in 2006 and then she adopted a boy in 2009. The last addition to her family were the twins she adopted from Malawi.

Mumbai, Jul 28: Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Manoj Tiwari has urged Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to look into the case of actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death and direct the state police to register an FIR in this connection.

Wishing Thackeray on Monday on his birthday, Tiwari, who has acted in Bhojpuri films, pointed out that over 40 days have passed since the death of Rajput, but an FIR is yet to be registered.

"Many happy returns of the Day @CMOMaharashtra Shri Uddhav Ji, on this day I request with folded hands to give justice to Sushant who died 43 days ago, but no FIR has been registered so far. I hope you will help. Please do justice to millions of SSR fans," he tweeted.

Bollywood actor Rajput was found dead at his Mumbai residence on June 14, which the police said was a case of suicide. His death had triggered an outcry from several quarters alleging that the late actor, who hailed from Bihar, was a victim of nepotism in the film industry.

The lawmaker from Northeast Delhi's Lok Sabha seat, who visited the deceased actor's family in Patna last month had then said: "Sushant's father and sister requested me to take up the issue and get him justice. It was really a sentimental moment for me".

Previously, Tiwari had demanded a CBI investigation into the matter

According to the police, statements of 40 people including film critic Rajeev Masand, director-producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and filmmaker Aditya Chopra and actor Rhea Chakraborty have been recorded in the investigation so far.
