Bollywood stars join hands to raise funds for Kashmir, Assam

New Delhi, Oct 19: From Aamir Khan and Anupam Kher to Shaan, several film and music personalities joined hands for a special concert to raise awareness and funds for the flood victims of Kashmir and Assam.

Ummeed e KashmirTitled 'Hum Hain.. Umeed-e-Kashmir', the event, held last evening, was an initiative of the entertainment industry led by the Event and Entertainment Management Association (EEMA), the Film and Television Producers Guild and Zee.

Voicing concern over lack of a proper disaster management system in India, Bollywood star Aamir Khan said it is time that the government takes steps to prepare itself to deal with such situations.

"I don't have any complaints with our government. I think they are doing their best in terms of relief effort. But we are very ill-equipped with disaster management. We need to be prepared and for that the Center and state has to work hand-in-hand," said Aamir.

The 49-year-old actor, who made a donation of Rs.25 lakhs, said, "I feel that we should all do our bit to help the victims. Tourism has been gravely affected by the floods. So, besides making monetary contributions, we can also help the economy by visiting the two states as both are famous tourist destinations."

Veteran actor Anupam Kher, who is a Kashmiri, made an emotional appeal to people gathered for the concert at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, to make generous contributions so that normalcy in the Valley is restored as soon as possible.

"I am shattered seeing the situation in Kashmir. So many lives were lost, so many properties destroyed. So, as a citizen of this country it is my duty to appeal to people to help the victims," said the 59-year-old actor, before giving a message in Kashmiri.

Donning a traditional Kashmiri phiran, Kher said the dress was a symbol of the Hindus and Muslims of the state as they both wear the same clothing.

Director-singer-actor Farhan Akhtar took to the stage for a special performance with a band. The 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' star opened his act by reciting a poem- 'Jab jab dard ka baadal chaya'- penned by his father lyricist Javed Akhtar, followed by singing unplugged version of 'Dil Chahta Hain' and 'Rock On'.

"I have decided that rather than blaming the system or the government, I will come here and do my bit for flood victims in Kashmir, and that's what you should do too," Farhan said.

Mumbai, Jul 17: After helping scores of stranded migrant labourers return to their native places amidst the coronavirus pandemic, actor Sonu Sood has now extended a helping hand towards the coronavirus warriors as he donated 25,000 face shields to Maharashtra Police personnel.

Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Thursday took to Twitter to thank the Bollywood actor for his "generous contribution" to help the Police personnel who have been working tirelessly amid the testing times.

"I thank Sonu Sood Ji for your generous contribution of giving 25,000 #FaceShields for our police personnel," tweeted Deshmukh.
Responding to the Home Minister, Sood said, "Truly honoured by your kind words Sir! My police brothers and sisters are our real heroes and this is the least that I can do for the commendable work which they have been doing. Jai Hind."

The 46-year-old actor who is known for his roles in films like 'Singh is Kinng,' 'Simmba', and 'Happy New Year' has been hailed all over the media for arranging hassle-free passage of migrant labourers to their respective homes.

New Delhi, Feb 9: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader LK Advani got emotional while watching the movie "Shikara: The Untold Story Of Kashmiri Pandits". It is a Hindi-language period film produced and directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from Kashmir.

In a video clip, the political veteran is seen trying to hold back his tears at the end of the film while Mr Chopra rushes to console him. Other people around them were also seen getting emotional and congratulating the filmmaker for the movie.

"Shikara" is about how Kashmiri Pandits were forced to flee from their houses in the Kashmir Valley in early 1990, in the wake of insurgency. The filmmaker said the film showcases how Kashmiri Pandits rebuilt their lives in the aftermath of the tragic event.

Featuring Aadil Khan and Sadia, Shikara released on February 7. Vidhu Vinod Chopra, who is from Kashmir, dedicates his movie to his mother, who died in 2007.

New Delhi, Feb 19: Deepika Padukone on Wednesday shared her much-awaited first look from the upcoming sports-drama '83' as Romi Dev, wife of cricket stalwart Kapil Dev. The actor also penned a message expressing gratitude for the iconic role.

The 'Chhapaak' actor shared the still on Twitter along with a caption that reads, "To play a small part in a film that captures one of the most iconic moments in sporting history has been an absolute honour!83 for me is an ode to every woman who puts her husband's dream before her own..."

In the absorbing first look, Deepika is seen sharing a smile along with Ranveer Singh, she is also seen sporting short hair. The star is seen wearing a high-neck top, while Ranveer is wearing team India's official blazer.

Previously, Ranveer shared the teaser of the flick in an event, which gave a glance of the lead characters of the flick featuring Tahir Raj Bhasin as Sunil Gavaskar, Jiiva as K Srikkanth, Saqib Saleem as Mohinder Amarnath, Jatin Sarna as Yashpal Sharma, Chirag Patil as Sandeep Patil, Dinker Sharma as Kirti Azad and Nishant Dahiya as Roger Binny, Harrdy Sandhu as Madan Lal, Sahil Khattar as Syed Kirmani, Ammy Virk as Balwinder Singh Sandhu and Addinath M Kothare as Dilip Vengsarkar, Dhairya Karwa as Ravi Shashtri and R Badree as Sunil Valson along with Pankaj Tripathi as PR Man Singh.

'83' is being co-produced by Madhu Mantena, Sajid Nadiadwala, and Reliance Entertainment. Helmed by Kabir Khan, the movie is slated for release on April 10.
