Udupi: Tulu Yakshagana fest from Thursday

Udupi, Jan 9: The Tulukoota will be organising the second annual Malpe Ramdas Samaga Memorial Tulu Yakshagana Festival at the Muddana Mantapa on MGM College campus here from January 10 to 12.

President of Tulukoota Jayakar Shetty Indrali told presspersons here on Tuesday that two Tulu Yakshagana episodes would be staged and a Tulu “Tala Maddale” would be held as part of the festival.

The artistes of the Sri Lakshmi Janardhana Kalamandali, Ambalpady, would perform the episode Kabimuthu Kalidase (Badagathittu) on January 10.

A Tulu Tala Maddale Kudiyan Kann would be held at 6.15 p.m. on January 11.

The yakshagana episode Vali Sugreevere Kalago (Tenkuthittu) would be staged on January 12.

There will be no entry fee for both the Yakshagana episodes and the Tala Maddale.

The Malpe Ramdas Samaga Yakshagana Memorial Award would be given to senior Yakshagana artiste Mijar Annappa on January 12.

The award would carry a citation and cash prize of Rs. 10,000.

The three-day festival would be inaugurated by Chairman of the Karnataka Yakshagana Bayala Academy M.L. Samaga on January 10.

The annual Kemthur Tulu Drama Award, instituted by Tulukoota, would be presented to the drama troupe Rangabhumi of Udupi for their Tulu play “Kalachakra” on January 13.

This function too would be held at MGM College.

Belagavi, Jan 16: Six Poachers were arrested in two different cases at Gollahalli forest range in Kittur section in the district on Thursday.

The arrested were identified as Bharmesh alias Bharmappa Hanumant Bhajantri, Mallesh Hanumant Bhajantri residents of Budanakatti in Bailahongal Taluk.

Another alleged accused Yuvraj Basappa Bhajantri managed to escape.

Mandya, Jul 6: With a journalist from Srirangapatna testing positive for Covid-19, the Mandya District Journalists Association was sealed as a precautionary measure.

Association President K C Manjunath said on Monday that as the reporter has tested positive for Covid-19, it was voluntarily decided to seal down the premises for another month.

Mangaluru, June 14: The management of Barakah International School and College has announced to waive off 33% of tuition fee in order to lessen the burden on parents who are undergoing financial crisis due to covid lockdown. 

This decision was taken after a series of virtual meetings with the Managing Director, Academic Director, Principal, Manager and PRO.

“While the school needs to continue to meet all the commitments and responsibilities towards the staff salaries, software, networking, etc, we fully understand that in the prevailing circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, job loss, reduction in salaries, general hardships of the self-employed businesses and the slowdown in the economy,” sated a release issued by the school.

“We would support our parent fraternity pro-actively and at the same time continue to meet the high-quality standards of our teaching- learning process and infrastructure so it has been decided that 1/3 of the tuition fee to be waived off for 2020-21,” the release said.
