Udupi, Jan 9: A 45-year-old Congress activist was allegedly abducted from Goliangady in Udupi district on January 7. His mother Shringeshwari Adiga has accused her neighbours of kidnapping him.

According to a complaint given by Shringeshwari Adiga, her son, Vasudeva Adiga (45), left home on his motorcycle on January 7 and had not returned. Later, when family members searched for him, Mr. Adiga’s pen was found near neighbour Ramesh Bayari’s house. The tracks of a vehicle were noticed on the spot.

On Tuesday morning, Mr. Adiga’s motorcycle and his footwear were found near Goliyangady village.

There was a land dispute between Mr. Adiga, and his neighbours Mr. Bayari, Krishna Murthy and Shankaranarayana Bayari for many years. The land dispute case was in the court. Mr. Adiga had been kidnapped with the intention of murdering him to grab the land, the mother said in her complaint.

A case of abduction had been registered and investigations were on, the police said.

According to Rajesh Shetty Birthi, president of Brahmavar Block Congress Committee, Mr. Adiga used to frequently get documents from various government departments under the Right to Information Act to help poor people.

A case has been registered at Shankarnarayana police station.
