Muslims protest against offensive Facebook posts

Gulbarga, Mar 3: The city witnessed spontaneous protests by Muslims on Saturday, against offensive articles and images of Prophet Mohammad and the Koran posted on Facebook. The protesters demanded that the offensive material be blocked immediately, and action be taken against those responsible for posting it.

Muslims, under the banner of the Gulbarga Muslim Welfare Association and other organisations, said the articles and images had insulted Islam and hurt their sentiments.

They took out a procession and submitted a memorandum to district authorities.

Class 10 student of Siddaganga Mutt tests covid positive

Tumakuru, Jun 20: An SSLC student of Siddaganga Mutt here was admitted to the isolation ward of the district hospital on Saturday after he showed Covid-19 symptoms.

Health officials said that the student, a native of the Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh, had returned to the Mutt via Raichur on June 15 for writing the SSLC examination scheduled to begin on June 25.

After he was admitted to the hospital the Health Department Officials kept three of his roommates under quarantine. Throat swab sample of the student has also been sent for testing.

Hoteliers suffer due to night curfew

Kalaburagi, Jul 2: Hoteliers in Kalaburagi have claimed that their business is hit due to night curfew timings in the state.

The night curfew in the state has been imposed from 8 pm to 5 am.

Speaking to news agency, Sudarshan, a hotelier said, "Peak business hour is 7-10 pm but now we close by 8 pm. There is almost no business. We are unable to pay our workers. The government should think about it".

"We haven't received any benefit from the government so far. If we are in trouble how will we help our workers? Relaxation should be given," he added.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka government on Tuesday announced a complete lockdown on Sundays till August 2.

So far, Karnataka has reported 15,242 COVID-19 cases, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
