Mangalore, Jul 1: A lorry carrying coal got completely burnt near Mission Bungalow on the Mangalore – Udupi stretch of the National Highway in Mulky on Saturday night. According to police, a motorist noticed fire on the lorry when it was on the move. The motorist overtook and informed the driver, who stopped the vehicle. The lorry was completely burnt, the police added.

Moodbidri, Jun 29: Two gold rings and a laptop were stolen from the house of Vidya Mascarenhas in Guddeyangadi in Moodbidri police station limits early on Saturday morning. The incident occurred when Ms. Mascarenhas had locked her house and gone to her relative’s house. Thieves broke open the rear door of Ms. Mascarenhas’s house and made away with gold rings and the laptop, the police said.

Puttur, Jun 29: A 30-year-old man died after he lost control of his motorcycle and fell under the wheels of an oncoming truck at Panaje village, Puttur taluk on Saturday. Around 3.30 p.m., Sulaiman skid on the road and fell. An oncoming truck could not apply brakes on time and ran over him, said the Puttur Rural Police. He died in the hospital a few hours later.

Mangalore, Jun 28: Two motorcycle-borne thieves went away with the gold chain of a woman on the Maidan Factory Road in Mangalore East Police station limits on Thursday evening. The police said Vedavati was returning from factory to her house around 6 p.m. when two persons on a motorcycle snatched her gold chain worth Rs. 80,000 and sped away, the police said.
