BSY announces Karnataka innovation Authority, Vision Group for start-ups

Bengaluru, Sept 19: Amidst economic slowdown and rampant unemployment, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa today announced that his government would set up ‘Karnataka Innovation Authority’ and a Vision Group for start-ups.

The CM will be the chairman for the Authority while DyCM C N Ashwanth Narayan will be its co-chairman. "... vision group for start-ups will provide insights on strengthening the start-up ecosystem, involving key stakeholders from industry and academia," he said.

Apart from these initiatives, Karnataka will also announce a revised IT policy in the coming days as part of its mission to promote faster and inclusive growth, he said. "The policy will focus on attracting investments and employment to tier-2 and tier-3 cities," he said.

He was speaking following a breakfast meeting with industry captains of IT and Biotechnology sector. An interactive session with diplomats from over 15 countries was also held.

"Government in association with industry partners is keen on taking up large upskilling and reskilling of the local workforce. I encourage industry to actively utilize local workforce who have the potential to be gainfully employed," Yediyurappa urged.

Ashwath Narayan, briefing media persons, said that a hardware manufacturing park was on the pipeline. "The objective of these initiatives is to ensure that the IT sector in Karnataka is worth 400 billion dollars as India pushes for five trillion dollar economy," he said.

With the help of 'Talent Accelerator Programme', the State was providing training at degree, engineering and polytechnic colleges to ensure that students coming out from these colleges are industry-ready. While a total of 30 colleges were already a part of the new-age innovation network, the number of colleges under it will be increased to 50, he added.

Bengaluru, Apr 29: The Karnataka police department has decided not to deploy its personnel aged above 55 as frontliners in Covid-19 related duty.

According to order issued here on Wednesday by Director General of Police Praveen Sood, it was a precautionary measure as the elderly was more susceptible to the risk of infection.

Apart from this, the order also states that any police personnel suffering from diabetes, hypertension, asthma, kidney, liver-related problems and cardiovascular disease must also be kept away from Coronavirus duty. The policemen can be deployed for station duty.

Mangaluru, Jan 4 The International Kite Festival, will be the main attraction of the Karavali Utsav being held here from January 10-19.

Deputy Commissioner Sindhu Roopesh said on Saturday that a variety of cultural programmes are scheduled on the occasion of Karavali Utsav being organized by the DK District Administration at the Karavali Utsav grounds, Kadri Park and Panambur Beach.

Cultural programmes will be presented by budding local artistes of State, National and International fame. All facilities for the cultural programmes will be set up at the Kadri park and Karavali Utsav grounds.

The programme will begin with a cultural procession from Nehru Maidan on 10 January followed by the Inauguration at the Karavali Utsav grounds.

Bengaluru, Jun 8: The Janata Dal (Secular) on Monday announced that former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda has decided to contest the forthcoming Rajya Sabha elections.

"Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda has decided to contest the Rajya Sabha elections at the request of our party legislators, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and many other leaders of the country. Tomorrow, he will be filing nomination for the election. Thanks to the former PM for agreeing to everyone's consensus," JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy said.

The elections to fill the vacant 18 Rajya Sabha seats from seven states are scheduled to be held on June 19.

Four Rajya Sabha seats are up for grabs in the state, Congress has already nominated senior leader Mallikarjun Kharge as its candidate.

The ruling BJP will field candidates for two seats.
