BSY, BJP misused office of Karnataka Governor, says Siddaramaiah

Bengaluru, Jul 27: Senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah on Saturday claimed that Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa took oath in an "unconstitutional way", adding that BJP "misused" the office of the Governor.

Speaking to reporters here, Siddaramaiah said BJP does not have a majority in the Assembly, despite which Yediyurappa took oath as Chief Minister. 

"BS Yediyurappa has taken oath in an unconstitutional way. They (BJP) have misused the office of the Governor. The strength of the house is 221. How much do they (BJP) have? They have 105."

"What is the simple majority in 221 member assembly? It is 111. Do they have 111 with them? They have to give a list of 111 members, have they given the list?" he asked. 

On being asked whether rebel MLAs are coming back to Bengaluru, Siddaramaiah said, "I do not know when they are coming back. Who has remanded them? If they had attended the vote of confidence, Kumaraswamy's government would have survived."

"BJP's victory is not a people's win. It is a victory of horse-trading," he added.

Yediyurappa was sworn in three days after the fall of the Congress-JD(S) coalition government, bringing the state back under saffron rule yet again.

The new BJP government in Karnataka will seek a vote of confidence on July 29 in the state Assembly for which a session is being convened.

Bengaluru, Apr 23: Nine new COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in Karnataka in the last 24 hours.

Out of these nine coronavirus positive cases, five have been reported from Kalaburagi and two each from Mysuru and Bengaluru.

According to the government of Karnataka, the total number of positive cases in the State now stands at 427 including 131 cured or discharged cases and 17 deaths.

The total number of positive coronavirus cases across the country are 19,984, including 15,474 active cases of the virus. So far, 3,869 patients have either been cured or discharged while 640 deaths have been recorded in the country, as per data provided by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Bengaluru, May 29: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and BJP State President Nalin Kumar Kateel will resolve any differences of opinion among party leaders in Karnataka, according to Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi

If anybody has any issues, they should get them resolved by talking with Yediyurappa and Kateel. Internal matters, if any, should not be discussed in public, he said.

Angadi told reporters here on Friday that differences of opinion among party leaders have not come to his notice. A section of party leaders assembling for dinner should not be constituted as a meeting of dissidents. BJP has internal democracy and any differences of opinion if exist will be resolved at the party forum.

He added that if MLA Umesh Katti has any issues regarding cabinet berth or regarding assurances given to him by Yediyurappa during the Lok Sabha elections, he should talk with the chief minister.

Everyone in politics has aspirations and it's natural. Those aspiring for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections should talk with the chief minister or the state president, he said.

Ramesh Katti was former MP and there was nothing wrong in him being aspirant for Rajya Sabha elections, he said.

Angadi said, "Party is supreme. We shall work for the victory of party candidates irrespective of who they were".

A state cabinet meeting was held on Thursday. Many of the MLAs too had been to Bengaluru for constituency-related works. As they had been meeting after a long time, all gathered for dinner, he expressed.

Mangaluru, Aug 1: Former member of Karnataka Legislative Council Ivan D’Souza has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. 

The Congress leader took to social media to break the news. “I and my wife Dr Kavitha have been tested positive covid-19 positive. There are no symptoms. We had voluntarily given our throat swabs for testing,” he said in a Facebook post.

He also requested his friends and well-wishers not to visit him until he recovers. 

Mr D’Souza had participated in a party meeting at Congress Bhavan when KPCC chief DK Shivakumar visited city yesterday. He was seen meeting several Congress leaders including U T Khader.
