Bus crushes seven students to death in UP

Kannauj, Jun 11: Seven students were crushed to death and three others were critically injured after a UP Roadways bus ran over them on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway near Uttar Pradesh, on Monday morning.

The students were of Khalilabad in Sant Kabir Nagar district and were going to Haridwar for an educational tour.

Police sources here said that the accident occurred near Talgram village when a few students got off the bus to transfer diesel to another bus when the speeding UP roadways bus crushed them.

Around 100 students of BTC course in Prabha Devi Degree college, Khalilabad were going to Haridwar on two buses.

The roadways bus has been seized but the driver managed to flee.

The injured students were rushed to the hospital immediately.

The deceased have been identified as Mahesh Gupta, Vijay, Mithlesh, Vishal Kumar, Abhay Prasad, Satish while one was yet to be identified.

Meanwhile, chief minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed his grief over the death of these six BTC students and a teacher in the accident on Lucknow-Agra expressway.

The CM announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs two lakh each to the families of the deceased students and the teacher.

Besides, the injured would be given Rs 50,000 each.

Mr Adityanath has also asked the Kannauj authorities to register an FIR against the bus driver and provide all medical facilities to the injured students.

Nagpur, Jan 28: A 19-year-old woman was allegedly raped and an iron rod was inserted in her private parts by a man in the Pardi area here, police said on Monday.

The gruesome incident took place on January 21 and the accused, Yogilal Rahangdale (52), was arrested from Gondia district, they said.

The accused was working as a supervisor in a spinning mill where the woman was employed as a labourer, the police said.

The woman, her brother, the accused and another girl lived in rented accommodations in Pardi.

Inspector Sunil Chavan of the Pardi police station said that the woman's brother and her female friend had gone to their village on January 21 for some work.

As the woman was alone at home, Rahangdale attempted to rape her in the night. When she resisted, he stuffed a piece of cloth in her mouth, he said.

When she fell unconscious, the accused raped her and inserted an iron rod in her private parts, Chavan said, quoting from the complaint filed by the victim.

She narrated the incident to her brother on January 24 and they subsequently lodged a complaint with the police.

An offence was registered against the accused at the Pardi police station.

Guna (MP),  Jun 27: A 20-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly eloping with her minor partner and "marrying" her at Guna town in Madhya Pradesh, police said on Saturday.

The matter came to light, when a resident of Budhe Balaji area approached the Kotwali police station on Monday with a complaint that his 17-year-old daughter had gone missing, additional superintendent of police T S Baghel said.

On investigation, it was found that a relative from a village Shivpuri district, who was living with the family, was also missing, he said.

A team was sent to the village and the duo was caught on Friday, the official said, adding that the woman had married the minor, who claimed that she had eloped of her own volition.

The woman was arrested under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, while the minor was sent back to her family after counselling.

Kochi, Feb 6: A 46-year-old Thailand national was allegedly raped by two men here, following which they were arrested, police said on Thursday.

The accused hailing from a north Kerala district have been arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by the woman.

Police said the accused-- Mohammed Insaf and his friend Ansaruddin from Kondotty in Malappuram district were arrested after recording the statement of the victim.

The woman from Thailand had been a Facebook friend of Insaf for the last seven months after she enrolled her child in a school in Malappuram district.

The woman who came from Bangkok recently to visit her child and was staying in a hotel here.

When Insaf came to meet the woman, he was accompanied by his friend Ansaruddin and both allegedly raped the woman at the hotel room, police said.

All formalities including medical examination of the woman were completed, police said.

The accused will be produced before the court on Thursday, they added.
