Cabinet expansion after receiving green signal from Central leaders: BSY

Bengaluru, Aug 5: Brushing aside the criticism by the Opposition Congress leader Siddaramaiah over the delay in the expansion of the Karnataka Cabinet, Chief minister B S Yediyurappa said that it will be done soon.

Speaking to newsmen, here on Monday, before leaving for an Aerial survey of the flood affected areas in five districts of Northern Karnataka region, he said, “I am visiting New Delhi in the next two days and discuss with the BJP leadership on the expansion of the cabinet”.

Stating that he need not take lesson from the Congress leaders to expand his Ministry said that “Ours is a national party and had to consult the party seniors before finalising the expansion of the Karnataka Cabinet”.

Stating that he will spare no minute, to expand the ministry, once receives green signal from the Central leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Home minister and party President Amit Shaw, he said that “Expansion would be done only after consulting the Central leaders”.

Describing the Flood situation in Northern Karnataka as grim, he said that strict instructions had been given to the officials to take all possible measures to help the affected people.

He said that “During my visit to New Delhi, will meet the Prime minister and appeal him for a special financial grant to tackle the flood situation”.

Bengaluru, Feb 4: Karnataka High Court on Monday reserved order on plea, seeking cancellation of bail granted to Nithyananda for skipping the trial and fleeing the country.

After hearing the arguments, the court has reserved the matter for further orders which will be pronounced on February 5.

The plea, which was filed in the high court on January 23, was heard by Justice John Michael Cunha.

The counsel for the complainant Lenin put forth arguments that the self-styled godman Swami Nithyananda had fled the country to escape the trial. "Nityananda has been claiming to be in India in his exemption petitions filed before the trial court but during that time he sought asylum in Ecuador and is having a second passport," said Lenin.

The prosecutor informed the court that they do not need his presence for the trial at this time.

Nithyananda, accused of rape and child abuse, has been absconding since November 2018.

In December 2019, the Ministry of External Affairs said that the passport of Nithyananda was cancelled and a fresh application of the same was denied as he did not get the requisite clearance from police and several criminal cases have been lodged against him.

Police in Ahmedabad had arrested two woman administrators of the ashram, allegedly owned by Nithyananda, and freed two boys who were held captive there.

Two of his disciples, Pranpriya and Priyatattva, were arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by one Janardhan Sharma who alleged that his daughter was held captive in Nithyananda's ashram.

The police took the two women to Nithyananda's ashram in Hathiajan for an investigation and seized laptops, mobile phones among other things.

Bengaluru, Jun 3: The Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences at Hubballi has successfully treated a COVID-19 patient through plasma therapy, state medical education minister K Sudhakar said today.

"Karnataka achieves yet another milestone in battle against #COVID19. KIMS Hubli has successfully treated a Covid19 patient through Plasma Therapy & is the first institute in the state to accomplish this. Congrats to KIMS doctors & staff for this feat!" Mr Sudhakar tweeted.

In plasma therapy treatment, plasma cells from a COVID-19 patient, who has recovered from the disease, is transfused to a coronavirus patient who is in critical condition to treat him.

Plasma therapy was effectively used in the past during Ebola and the Spanish flu pandemic.

Mangalore, Jan 12: Thieves reportedly stole around 70,000 cash from a MESCOM ATP machine located at Chembugudde in Thokkottu, Police said here on Sunday.

Police said that the theft took place in the MESCOM sub-division office at Chembugudde. It was said that the thieves broke open the room where the MESCOM customers bill payment machine was located and stole 70,000 rupees cash from the ATP machine.

This machine had nine lakh rupees cash. The amount was reported to have been transferred at around 1500 hrs on Saturday.
