Bengaluru, Apr 27: The police registered a case against Nowhera Shaik, the founder of All India Mahila Empowerment Party after she was caught with Rs 3.94 lakh unaccounted for cash at HAL airport in Bengaluru recently.
Shaik, who is also the chief executive officer of Heera Group, a consortium of twenty companies with its headquarters at Hyderabad, had arrived at the HAL airport last sunday from Tirupati in a private aircraft.
Kushalappa D.T., assistant nodal officer, HAL subdivision, stated that when he carried out a search, Rs 3.94 lakh cash was found in the handbag belonging to Ms Shaik.
In his complaint, Kushalappa alleged that the businesswoman refused to divulge details of the source of the money. As the election code of conduct is in place, officials seized the cash and handed it over to the jurisdictional HAL police for further investigation.
The police have taken up a case under Section 98 of the Karnataka Police Act (possession of goods or anything which there is reason to believe is stolen property, or property fraudulently obtained).
