Mangaluru, Dec 11: The impressive performance of the Indian National Congress in assembly polls in north Indian states has energised the party workers in coastal Karnataka.
Dozens of the Congress workers in Mangaluru and Udupi took to the streets to celebrate the Congress victory in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan and impressive performance in Madhya Pradesh after the announcements of results today.
“Today’s results prove that people of the Country want Congress back in power. The BJP has been thrown out of all the five states that went to polls last week,” said Mithun Rai, president of Dakshina Kannada district unit of the Youth Congress.
He along with other local Congress leaders and workers gathered in front of the party office in the city and celebrated ‘Vijayotsav’. They also distributed sweets among the people in the vicinity.
“The results have energised us. We are now heading for Lok Sabha polls. Countdown has begun for the end of BJP rule at the Centre. Dakshina Kannada too will send a Congress candidate to the parliament this time,” said J R Lobo, former MLA from Manglauru City South constituency.
In 2018 Karnataka Assembly polls, Congress had won only one seat in entire Dakshina Kannada and lost seven seats to Bharatiya Janata Party.
