Bengaluru, Jan 13: An auto driver repeatedly stabbed his wife at his residence at Ramamurthynagar in Bengaluru and then committed suicide thinking that she was dead.

Henry Fernandes, a Christian married his Hindu girlfriend Chitra about ten years ago. The couple has two children.

Suspecting Chitra of having a relationship, Fernandes quarreled frequently with her. Chitra went back to her parent's residence in Devasandra ten days ago.

But Fernandes talked her into getting back home and be with their children. On Friday, he dropped the children at school at 9 am and returned home by noon. He had heated arguments with Chitra over the nagging doubt that she was in a relationship with someone.

When arguments intensified, he stabbed Chitra multiple times and watched her fall unconscious. Thinking that she was dead, he hung himself from a cealing fan.

Around 5 pm, Chitra's brother Mahendra stopped by the place and saw his sister lying with stab wounds. He rushed her to hospital and informed police about Fernandes's suicide.

KR Puram police shifted the auto driver's body to hospital for post-mortem. They have registered a case of attempted murder and suicide and probing the incident further.

Panaji, Feb 23: A MiG-29K aircraft crashed off Goa during a routine training sortie on Sunday morning, the Indian Navy said in a statement.

"The pilot ejected safely and has been recovered. An enquiry into the incident has been ordered," the statement said.

On November 16, a MiG-29K trainer flight had crashed after a bird hit, soon after it took off the Dabolim International airport, which functions out of the Indian Navy base INS Hansa.

Both pilots had managed to safely eject themselves to safety after both the engines of their jet failed.

According to data tabled in the recent budget session of the Goa Assembly, every ten days, at least one aircraft landing or taking off at Goa's Dabolim international airport faces dangers involving birds or stray dogs near the runway.

Mumbai, Feb 11: A 65-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her husband over debt and illness in suburban Powai here, police said on Tuesday.

The incident came to light when Sheela Ajit Lad was found dead by her neighbours at Sukh Shanti Co-operative Society at around 9.30 pm on Monday, an official said.

The victim was allegedly killed by her husband Ajit Lad, who hit her on the head with a heavy object, slit her wrists and strangled her to death, he said.

The accused absconded at around 7.30 pm, leaving a note at the crime scene, saying he was going to commit suicide and had killed his wife because he was heavily in debt and she was suffering from an ailment, the official said.

The childless couple lived alone in the apartment, he added.

"On the basis of the note, we have registered a case of murder against Ajit Lad and have launched a manhunt for him. We have not traced him or found his body as he had mentioned suicide in the note," deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Zone X Ankit Goyal said.
