CM pledges to fulfill goldsmiths' demands

Udupi, February 6: Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda assured that the government will take measures to fulfill the reasonable demands put forth by the Vishwakarma community.

He was speaking after inaugurating the “Vishwakarma Sammellan-2012” organised by the Vishwakarma Okkuta here on Sunday.

He said he will take all necessary measures to release the fund of Rs 1 crore for Shilpa Kala Academy by transferring the fund from Endowment Department to Kannada and Culture Department.

Earlier the funds were released to Endowment Department. He informed that Financial Department had raised objections to release the said amount through Endowment Department. He said the people concerned will be authorised with the power to make use of the released funds to the fullest.

He also said he will go through the issue of setting up of “Shilpakale Gurukula” and the reasons behind the people in this part of area deprived from the benefits of Rs 5 crore that was released for the purpose, he added.The Chief Minister also assured that he will take action to provide loans for the goldsmiths at 1 per cent of interest rate up to Rs 3 lakhs, he added.

He informed that the legislation banning cow slaughter in the state will be amended as per the directions from the President's office and sent back to her for the approval shortly. Stating that he was always supported from the people belonging to Vishwakarma community all through his political career, Gowda said these people are known to build the nation.

Government will make attempts to fulfill their demands phase by phase, he added.

Bengaluru, Jul 5: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each for the families of a youth and a child, who died due to a landslide at Gurupura in Mangaluru.

"The Chief Minister announces Rs 5 lakh each compensation to Safwan (17) and Shehla (10) who died due to landslide at Gurupura, Mangaluru. Houses will also be built for people who lost houses at Bodanthilla, Dakshina Kannada," an official said.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon.
The State Disaster Management Authority said that 57 people and 262 animals lost their lives in flood, rainfall and lightning-related incidents in Karnataka between April 1, 2020, and July 5, 2020.

Mandya, Apr 7: A man who was suspected of having the COVID-19 infection, escaped from the isolation ward of the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS), on Monday, creating panic among the people and hospital staff.

The man had earlier been in quarantine in Malavalli. On Sunday night He was shifted to MIMS Hospital, after he complained of throat infection and breathing problems and was kept in an isolation ward.

On Monday morning, however, the hospital staff found missing from the ward. They immediately reported the matter and launched a search for him. Superintendent of Police K Parashuram and Additional SP V J Shobharani and others rushed to the spot and began an inquiry. They also viewed the CCTV footage.

New Delhi, Mar 21: Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Minister B. Sriramulu on Saturday informed that one more person was tested positive for the coronavirus in the state.

He said that a total of 16 persons have been tested positive for COVID-19 in the state so far.

The victim had come from Mecca and was kept in quarantine facility by the state authorities.

"For a 32-year-old man, who had just returned from a trip to Mecca has found COVID-19 positive. The infection has been confirmed. He has already been treated at an isolated ward of the hospital. Citizens must not have any sort of anxiety," tweeted Sriramulu.

Also, the news and public relations department, the Indian Red Cross Society and the Karnataka State Labour Studies Institute have invited volunteers for the programme to provide real-time information to people to avoid spreading rumours and misinformation about coronavirus.

At least four volunteers will work in four shifts per day in each taluk of the state. There are about 120 volunteers in Bengaluru city and about 3,000 Corona Warriors are expected to register from across the state. Over 400 volunteers have registered via online application on the first day.
