From coaches to teammates, all happy over Parvez’s inclusion in WC probables

December 6, 2014

Parvez RasoolSrinagar, Dec 6: The Kashmir valley based cricket fans, team mates and cricket enthusiasts have expressed their happiness to see Parvez Rasool, skipper of Jammu and Kashmir Ranji team, included in the list of 30 probables for the tournament that would be played in Australia and New Zealand next year.

Abdul Qayoum Bagow, Parvez’s mentor from his hay days, told Kashmir Reader that it is a proud moment not for him (Bagow) but for the entire cricketing fraternity that his (Parvez) name has figured in the list of 30 probables for World Cup.

“What else a coach wants from his taught. When I first saw him playing I was sure that one day he will make it big,” Bagow said of Parvez’s selection in probables.

“God willing he will make it in the final 15 and in the coming Ranji trophy matches he will perform well as BCCI selectors will be keenly watching the matches. It will play a crucial role to make into final list,” Bagow added.

The selection was proud moment for Parvez’s family too, who understandably looked a happy lot with his father Ghulam Rasool Zargar terming the proud moment to the hard work that his son put over the years bearing the fruits.

He said he came to know about Parvez being included in the probables when his Kashmiri friend called him from Bangalore around 4:00pm on Thursday.

“Obviously I am happy and proud father. This is a proud moment for all of us. Parvez is a hard working cricketer and I am sure he will be a successful to make it in the final 15. I can only pray from him to make it into the final cut, Zargar told over phone from his home town Anantnag.

Zargar is yet to convey his wishes to his son due to the poor mobile connectivity.

“I am desperately trying to talk to my son and wish him good luck. Unfortunately poor mobile connectivity is playing a spoilsport,” he said.

Parvez’s teammate and J&K opener, Adil Reshi termed the Parvez’s inclusion as great moment and morale booster for the team. “His inclusion will definitely help us to perform better in this Ranji season. He has opened a door for other talent players and has given us a belief that we can make it big,” Reshi said.

Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association, Treasurer Ghulam Mohammad Bhat said: “This is great news for J&K cricket. His hard work has paid off as he is performing consistently both with bat and bowl; it is every players dream to make it into world cup squad.”

Fans too have their say for the selection.

“This is a proud moment for the state that a cricketer from small town of Bijbehara has been included in the world cup probables. He has become a inspiration for upcoming cricketers and hope that he will perform to his abilities, in the coming domestic matches to make it into final list” said Jehanzaib Sami, a cricket fan from Srinagar.

Milan, Mar 28: Juventus star Paulo Dybala revealed how he "struggled to breathe" after contracting coronavirus which has killed over 9,000 people in Italy.

The Argentine international announced last Saturday he was one of three Juventus players to catch the virus along with Daniele Rugani and Blaise Matuidi, who both had no symptoms.

"I feel better now after some strong symptoms," the 26-year-old Dybala told JTV channel.

"A couple of days ago I was not well, I felt heavy and after five minutes of movement I had to stop because I was struggling to breathe.

"Now I can move and walk to start trying to train, because when I tried in the past few days I started to shake too much.

"I gasped for air and as a result I couldn't do anything, after five minutes I was already very tired, I felt the body heavy and my muscles hurt.

"Now I'm fine. My fiancee Oriana (Sabatini) has also overcome the symptoms."

Dybala has scored 13 goals in all competitions this season, including in league leader's Juventus's last game against Inter Milan before Serie A and all sport in Italy was suspended.

"The goal against Inter was the greatest emotion, (Aaron) Ramsey provided the perfect assist - it's a pity that there was no public," added Dybala.

Bengaluru, Aug 1: Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are aiming to set up their preparatory camp for the 13th edition of the tournament from early August.

This year's IPL was slated to commence from March 29 but the tournament was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Recently, the IPL Governing Council chairman Brijesh Patel had confirmed that the 13th edition of the mega event will commence on September 19 in the UAE.

As per a report in ESPNcricinfo, CSK players have been asked to report to Chennai first, following which they will leave for Dubai via a charter flight only after approval from the Indian government.

The IPL Governing Council will meet on August 2 to finalise the schedule and other key arrangements for the tournament. Also, the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) around securing eight teams for 51 days across three venues will be formally established in that meeting.

CSK, who has the oldest squad in the IPL, are looking for a month's preparation before ahead of the tournament.

Before the coronavirus pandemic, the side was the first team to start their training camp in March. Senior players like Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu had begun training their training in December 2019.

Vitoria, Jul 20: Lionel Messi won a record seventh top scoring title in the Spanish league after netting twice in Barcelona's 5-0 rout of Alav s in the final round.

Messi ended with 25 goals, four more than Karim Benzema, who did not score in Real Madrid's 2-2 draw at Legan s.

Messi is the first player to finish as the league's top scorer in seven different seasons. He reached the milestone despite missing games because of an injury early in the season. The Argentine's 25 goals came in 33 matches.

Messi was tied with Telmo Zarra with six scoring titles. He has also now equaled Hugo Sanchez's feat of four straight top-scorer trophies.

"Individual achievements are always secondary," Messi said on Sunday.

"I wished it could have come along with the league title."

This is also the third successive season that Messi finished with the most assists 21 in the league.

Ansu Fati, Luis Su rez and Nelson Semedo also scored Sunday for Barcelona, which had already secured second place behind Madrid.

Fati opened the scoring in the 24th minute, Messi added to the lead 10 minutes later and Su rez closed the first-half scoring in the 44th. Semedo got on the board in the 57th and Messi in the 75th to help Barcelona rebound from a 2-1 home loss to Osasuna.

"Today things were different," Messi said.

"The team showed better attitude and commitment. It was an important step forward for us ahead of what's left in the season."

Barcelona now turns its focus to its Aug. 8 home game against Napoli in the round of 16 of the Champions League. The first leg, played before the break, ended 1-1.

Barcelona coach Quique Seti n finished under pressure after the team relinquished a two-point lead over Madrid when the league resumed following the pandemic break. It was four points back before Madrid's match at Legan s.

Barcelona defender Cl ment Lenglet had to be substituted early in the second half because of an apparent muscle injury.

Alav s, sitting in 15th, had already done enough to stay up.

BAR A "B" TEAM

American winger Konrad de la Fuente scored twice as Barcelona's "B" team beat Valladolid B to keep alive its hopes of reaching the second division next season. The victory put Barcelona in the second round of the promotion playoffs.

The 19-year-old De la Fuente, who recently had his contract with Barcelona extended through the 2021-22 season, scored in each half.
