Coastal Karnataka’s heritage comes alive at KWAR’s Karavali Parba-2015

Riyadh: Karavali Parba-2015, the annual fest of the Karavali Welfare Association Riyadh (KWAR) was held recently recreating a miniature coastal Karnataka in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The function was inaugurated by lighting of the lamp by the KWAR President Rajesh Kumar, Vice President Santhosh Shetty, General Secretary Nazeer Ahmed, former presidents Vijay Rai, Ramesh Shetty and Royston Prabhu, and former vice president Parvez Ali. Rajesh Kumar delivered the inaugural address.

Aathmika Rao performed an Indian traditional Bharatha Natya dance to mark the beginning of cultural programmes. Emerging artiste Srikanth Hejamady enthralled the gathering by presenting himself as the father the nation Mahathma Gandhi with Karavali theme song.

All the KWAR executive committee members along with some of the women’s wing members presented ‘Tulu Nada Vaibhava’ with a procession alongside the audience up to the stage, comprising the culture of karavali, where they presented the acts of Kombu, Pathake, Chande, Talla, Pili Vesha, Karaga, Gombe and the most famous Yakshagana.

The programme continued with solo folk, Hindi and Kannada movie songs performed by Mr. Santhosh Shetty, Mrs. Lekha, Mr. Rajiv Kamath, Miss Shreeja, Mrs. Ashwini Rao, Miss Aakansha, Mrs. Saujanya, Mr. Farooq, Mr. Bhaskar and Mr. Nazeer.

The most spectacular act was by the children of KWAR who enacted ‘Ek Anek’ symbolizing the KWAR slogan ‘Unity is our Strength’.

A colourful fashion show showcasing the traditional costumes from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, was conducted by Ms. Riba & Ms. Joshika left the audience spellbound. KWAR cultural team is comprised of Bhaskar P.M., Dilip Kumar, Mrs. Ritika Kamath and Shagufta Nauman.

Mrs. Veena Rai and Mr. Vijai Rai, the founder and former president of KWAR were felicitated with a shawl and memento by the President Rajesh Kumar and his wife Mrs Latha Rajesh Kumar, as the Rai family is leaving the Kingdom for good after 30 years of his service in the Kingdom. On behalf KWAR Mr. Rajesh Kumar wished them good health and a peaceful future life in India.

Some of the group dances were performed by various organizations like Murudeshwar Group, Barsa, Aangann Konknechem and SKAR. The most spectacular among the group dance was ‘India Wale’ performed by the young boys of KWAR members, choreographed by Master Zayeem.

Cinema Huchu, a hilarious tulu skit was performed by G3 Group, directed by Nagaraj Bajal. Muddu Manasina Munna, another skit was performed by Barsa Group.

Lucky draw was conducted on regular interval sponsored by Jet Airways, Air India, Air Arabia, Fly Dubai, Mahindra Holidays, and Malabar Gold. And also there was a Raffle Draw sponsored by Madina Hyper Market.

Mrs Eileen Mary Gonsalves, who completed 27 years of service in the field of education in Riyadh, KSA was also felicitated on the occasion by the women’s wing of KWAR. Vice present of KWAR women’s wing Mrs. Amitha Prabhu presented her with a shawl and a memento.

Nazeer and Parvez Ali were instrumental in hosting the entire event by presenting a variety of programs which kept the audience intact. A power-point presentation was running simultaneously presenting all the activities of KWAR since its inception.

The newly instituted ‘Karavali Jyothi’ award was conferred on Yathiraj Malpe, the executive committee member of KWAR for his exceptional qualities in serving the people and working towards preserving the unity of KWAR. He had also helped the stranded Indians during last year’s Nitaqat implementation drive in the Kingdom. He has helped many job seekers to find jobs and accommodations in the kingdom over the years.

Representatives of various organizations including President of Barsa Mr. Jagadish Shetty, President of SKAR Mrs. Rekha Manoj, Mrs. Indira and Mrs. Padmavati representing G3 Group, President and former President of Aangann Konknechem Mr. Roshan Lobo and Mr. Arun D’Souza, and P.B. Abdul Razak, a social worker associated with many charity and social organisation in Mangaluru were also honoured with flower bouquets.

All the participating children were awarded with KWAR medals. The final act by G3 Group with ghost effect thrilled the audience. The act was written, created and directed by Nagaraj Bajal. The programme was concluded at about 4:00 a.m. with the recitation of National Anthem.

Dubai: A non-profitable social organization, KSCC is delivering a great service to the community during this pandemic situation.

Karnataka Sports and Cultural Club is a civil organization registered under Community Development Authority (CDA) involved in implementing various UAE government initiatives, blood donation drives, health campaigns, sport events, charity works, awareness programs and much more.

KSCC is currently actively liaising with Dubai government authorities in discharging the needs and requirements of the people in these challenging covid-19 pandemic times. It is also involved the activities such as logistics, coordinating stores, mobilizing isolation centers, equipping quarantine facilities and volunteering services.

During these testing times, KSCC is also facilitating the Guidance to the general public, follow-up up to 122 covid positive cases, counselling the affected, assisting the references and providing the ever-necessary emotional support by setting up a team of 24 reserved persons for call center helplines.

As per the request from DHA (Dubai Health Authority) KSCC has successfully organized the blood donation drive and donated upto 141 units of blood with the help of KSCC members & supporters.

Apart from above, KSCC is also engaged in serving needy by distributing the food provisional kit (Yestahloon) from the very 1st day of lockdown till day by their special task force team under guidelines of CDA, and also taking into consideration the month of Ramadan, team is successfully distributing Iftar food & provision kit with the help of donors.

In the 1st Phase, KSCC covered 2421 beneficiaries by providing 440 provisional food kits, 435 food pack and 529 Iftar kits.

As per the CDA guidelines, club is also engaged in following up the health condition of senior citizens living in UAE.

KSCC special team is also engaged in clearing documentation and formalities related to dead body repatriation until its final procedures and handing over to relatives with help of UAE governments authorities. Total 5 dead bodies are repatriated in their 1st phase of service.

KSCC is also having a center controlled special task team to assist all above activities during the covid-19 pandemic to continue the services to general public.

KSCC thanks all Government authorities, Members in different task team, supporters and Sponsors company MAERSK, MALABAR GOLD & DIAMOND and TAMIL ENTREPRENEUR for their support and also request extend their support to consolidate the above demanding service and deliver our best possible assistance not only because it is the month of Ramadan, but also our responsibility to reach out to the poor and needy, during this fight against Covid-19.

Riyadh: On the occasion of 71st Republic Day of India, Karavali Welfare Association Riyadh (KWAR) conducted BLOOD DONATION CAMPAIGN on the 17th Jan 2020 at KING SAUD Universities King Khalid University Hospital, Riyadh. 

This is one of KWARs Prestigious Humanitarian EVENT every year, as we are indebted to serve the society for a Great Cause.

The campaign began at 08:30 am with a theme of Republic Day Celebrations and went on till 3:30 pm. Irrespective of Friday being a weekend and holiday people came in good numbers to donate Blood. The Hospital Staff, The Doctors and the Blood Bank Technicians and others at King Khalid University Hospital were more than happy to serve all those who have participated in this campaign.

KWAR Thanks all the Hospital Staff especially Mr. Salman Baqsh for his introduction of KWAR to Blood Bank and all the arrangements for this campaign, without his support this could not been done. Dr. Zafar Mahmoud for his wonderful support during the campaign and Mr. Abdullah Al Saman for his outstanding Hospitality throughout the campaign. KWAR also thanks all the donors who came all the way voluntarily for this Great Humanitarian Cause. As a token of gesture KWAR awarded Certificate of Appreciation to all the participants.

And KWAR would like to thank specially Mr. Nasir, Representative of Blood Helpline Karnataka, who encouraged many donors and made them to actively participate and donate blood for this noble cause.

KWAR’s core activities was on display on the screen, with most of the Committee members were present at the venue to serve the donors. KWAR thanks all the members, the Executive committee and all those who took their valuable time to organize this event successfully and thank all our well-wishers who supported us for the BLOOD DONATION CAMPAIGN. We in KWAR wish every Donor and the participants a healthy life ahead, and we need everyone's active participation in all our Future events.

Kuwait: State of Karnataka is enriched with Daasa culture, which had contributed immensely to its literature, culture, art & philosophy. Daasa tradition in Karnataka was part of the Bhakti movement which flourished from around 15th century and it extended considerable spiritual influence over the masses. Kuwait Kannada Koota, a socio-cultural association for the people of Karnataka in Kuwait, organized its annual Daasotsava on 14th February 2020 in remembrance of these saints, thereby displaying the rich cultural heritage of the state. 

The program started with a warm welcome address by Mrs. Spoorthy Kamath, convener of cultural committee. Divine invocation prayer by Mrs. Vasantha Ashok and Mrs. Sandhya Arun set the trend for the event. This was followed by lighting of the traditional lamp by the 2020 executive committee, comprising of President Mr. Rajesh Vittal, Vice President Mr. Sandeep Chabba, General Secretary Mr. Praveen Kumar Shetty and Treasurer Mr. Pradeep Rao. President, while welcoming the gathering, spoke about the importance of Daasas in Kannada literature & history and briefed about the series of upcoming programs. Cultural programs started with fancy dress competition by Koota children comprising of all age group starting from infants to elder kids. This program stole the show as the efforts & time invested by children and their parents were clearly visible. 

2019 executive committee was felicitated by the current committee for wonderfully managing Koota affairs & programs. This was followed by the release of Koota magazine “Marala Mallige", comprising of informative articles, drawings, poems etc., entirely contributed by the association members. Event’s main attraction “Vrindavana Leelavarana", a colorful dance drama spectacularly portrayed by 54 Koota children, was very well appreciated & received by the attendees. Association children who successfully completed 10th and 12th were felicitated as a token of encouragement. Executive committee gave away prizes to Kids who excelled in the stage competitions held earlier. Audience was treated to a divine and melodious Bhajan program conducted astutely by the ladies & men. Koota women performed Bhajan Kolata, along with ladies bhajan, in a well-coordinated manner. Vote of thanks was proposed by the secretary of Koota, thanking those who contributed for the success of the event. Another attraction was a quiz competition “Rasa Prashne", conducted efficiently between the programs, by Mr. Mahesh Shiramgond. 

The whole event was planned and executed astutely by the cultural committee under the leadership of Convener, Mrs. Spoorthy Kamath. Public Relations Committee, led by Mrs. Suparna Dambal, welcomed the members in a vibrant & colorful way, showcasing a beautifully erected divine mantap. The event was sponsored by Unimoni, LIC HFL, VSPL, Geetherb, Kotak Life Insurance, Joy Alukkas, Lulu Hypermarket & Total Environment. The program ended with a sumptuous satvik lunch, sponsored by the senior Koota member, Mr. Ramachandran Seetharaman.
