PFI stages protest in Udupi against Uttara Kannada MP's anti-Islam remarks

Udupi, Mar 8: Protesting against the provocative remarks of Uttara Kannada MP and BJP leader Anant Kumar Hegde against Islam, the members of the Popular Front of India (PFI) staged a demonstration in front of the Clock Tower here on Monday.

Riyaz Farangipete, member of the State committee of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), said that Mr. Hegde's statement that terrorism could not be eliminated till Islam was existent, showed his anti-Muslim thinking. This statement was also against the spirit of the Constitution. Hence, legal action should be initiated against him, he said.

In order to protect the unity and integrity of the country, it was necessary to treat all religions and castes as equal. Elected representatives were expected to uphold the unity and integrity of the country and values of the Constitution. It was an ominous sign if they started giving such divisive statements were made.

595 TN fishermen working in Mangaluru finally reach their home state

Chamaranagara, Mar 29: As many as 595 Tamil Nadu-based fishermen, who were working in Mangaluru, crossed the Karnataka border and reached their state via Chamarajanagar on Saturday.

Police said following the lockdown, the fishermen had left Mangaluru in more than 20 vehicles. The fishermen crossed the Karnataka border through Punajur check-post. However, the vehicles returned after dropping them near Hasanur check-post in Tamil Nadu.

As the fishermen had no proper documents, they were stopped by Tamil Nadu Police. However, the police allowed them after screening. The Tamil Nadu government arranged vehicles to ferry them, said a police officer.

Shobha Karandlaje claims 'corona jihad' behind Markaz Nizamuddin gathering

Chikmagalur, April 5: BJP Lok Sabha MP from Udupi Chikmagalur Shobha Karandlaje on Saturday claimed that "efforts to spread coronavirus throughout the country" began at Tablighi Jamaat event in Delhi and termed it as "corona jihad".

"Efforts began at Tablighi Jamaat event in Delhi to spread coronavirus throughout the country.

Most of the attendees of that event are untraceable. There seems to be 'corona Jihadi plan' behind that meeting," she said while speaking to reporters here.

Meanwhile, according to officials, out of the seven new cases from Mysuru, two cases are connected to the Jubilant Generics cluster while the rest five cases have a travel history to Delhi.

Total positive cases of COVID-19 in India stand at 3072.

Learning to live with corona: Not more than 50 guests, no liquor at weddings and events in Karnataka

Marriages will have to shed decadence as the state government, in an advisory, has restricted the number of guests to 50 and barred consumption of liquor at such events.

The advisory was issued in anticipation that the COVID-19 lockdown will be eased in a phased manner.

The advisory, issued by the Department of Health & Family Welfare, states that events can be held in a “suitable public place with good natural ventilation (no air condition).”

All guests must have the Arogya Setu app on their phones and the contact details all marriage attendees should be maintained.

No person from a containment zone will be allowed to attend the event, and persons aged above 65 years, pregnant women and children below 10 years are not permitted.

Sanitizers are to be provided at the entry and at “appropriate” places. Thermal screening is a must at the entry point of the venue. The scanner should be held 3-15 cm away from a person’s forehead. “Anyone found having a fever (37.5 degree centigrade or 99.5 farenheit), cold, cough, difficulty in breathing shall not be permitted to attend the event and immediately referred to seek medical advice,” the advisory said.

Besides prohibition on consumption of alcohol, the advisory said paan, gutka and tobacco will not be allowed.

Face masks are compulsory and all persons should maintain a physical distance of more than one metre. The venue shall be clean and hygienic, with a prohibition on spitting in public places.

A nodal person should be identified to oversee the arrangements, the advisory said.
