Hubballi, Apr 12: Janandolanagala Maha Maitri, a congregation of like-minded progressive organisations, has decided to support Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Santosh Nargund against the former Chief Minister and BJP candidate Jagadish Shettar in the Hubballi-Dharwad Central Assembly constituency.

Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, Samaj Parivartana Samudaya founder-president S.R. Hiremath, who is part of the Maha Maitri, said that all major political parties, including the Congress, the BJP and the Janata Dal(S), have failed to live up to the expectations of the people.

Therefore, it was necessary to bring in changes on the political front. It was with this objective that the Maha Maitri had decided to support candidates such as Mr. Nargund in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Condemning Mr. Shettar for projecting himself as a humble and clean politician, Mr. Hiremath said that it was during Mr. Shettar’s tenure as Chief Minister that the former Lokayukta Bhaskar Rao was appointed ignoring all objections raised. Besides, he has not done anything for the State as Minister and Chief Minister. Hence, Mr. Shettar does not deserve to be in public life, he added.

Maha Maitri coordinator Raghavendra Kustagi said that Mr. Shettar should list out his contribution to his constituency, which he has represented for the last 21 years. Mr Shettar’s only contribution to State is the appointment of the former Lokayukta. His appointment was done despite getting several negative feedbacks from people, legal fraternity and organisations. “Mr. Shettar hit the final nail in the coffin of the Lokayukta by appointing Bhaskar Rao,” he said.

AAP candidate Santosh Nargund, Basavaraj, Shivakumar C., SUCI members Kotresh and others were present.
