Cong holds massive vehicle rally demanding Palemar's resignation

Mangalore, February 11: Congress workers in Mangalore North Legislative Constituency, represented by tainted MLA Krishna J Palemar on Friday evening took out a massive vehicle rally demanding his resignation.

Hundreds of activists on dozens of motorbikes, cars and auto-rickshaws took part in the rally from Suratkal to Kavoor.

Flagging of the rally, Dakshina Kannada Minorities wing president of Congress Party Moideen Bava accused Mr Palemar, who was forced to resign from his ministerial berths following the Assembly Porngate, of deceiving his voters.

He said that Palemar not only failed fulfil his pre-election promises but also pursued anti-people policies in throughout his tenure.

Mr Bava said that the biggest shame was that the man who was one of the influential ministers in ruling BJP government involved in porngate scandal.

He said that those who voted Palemar in the last Assembly election are now repenting and demanding his resignation. “He must quit as MLA and save the dignity of the people of his constituency”, he said.

KPCC Secretary Ivan D Souza, ex-mayor Ashraf, Shashidhar Hegde, Gangadhar Hosabettu, Lakshmidhar Giri, Sharif Chokkabettu were present.

Bengaluru, Ju 2 As many as 19 deaths and 1,502 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Karnataka till 5 pm on Thursday, as per information provided by the State Health Department.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the state now stands at 18,016, including 9,406 active cases.

While 8,334 patients have been discharged after treatment, 272 people have succumbed to the virus.

India's COVID-19 tally breached the 6 lakh cases mark with 19,148 new coronavirus cases being reported in the last 24 hours, informed the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday.

The total cases now stand at 6,04,641 of which there are 2,26,947 active cases while 3,59,860 patients have been cured/discharged/migrated. 434 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours taking the number of COVID-19 deaths in the country to 17,834.

Bantwal, Apr 29: Two people were injured after the truck laden with poultry feed rammed into the compound wall of after catching fire on Wednesday, at Marnabailu near Melkar.

Police said the injured were the driver and an assistant in the truck. They were admitted to a private hospital at Mangaluru.

However, it is not yet clear whether the truck transporting poultry feed from a company at Kandur caught fire after colliding against the electric pole or with the compound wall.

Mangaluru, May 8: Migrant workers, stranded in Karnataka due to lockdown, staged a protest on Friday at the Central Railway Station here, demanding to be sent back to their respective native places.

The workers demanded the state government to take measures and send them back to their homes.

Maintaining social distancing and covering their faces with masks, the workers were holding placards which read -- "We want to go home Jharkhand, We want justice and we want to go home."

They appealed to the state government to arrange trains and buses to ferry them to their native places and threatened to walk home if denied transport.

Several protests have erupted in different parts of the country, such as Andhra Pradesh and Kerala, as stranded labourers took to the roads demanding to be sent back home.

The Ministry of Home Affairs on May 1 had issued an order to extend the ongoing lockdown by two more weeks from May 4 with some relaxations.
