Court grants police custody of prime accused in actress abduction case

Kochi, Feb 25: A court in nearby Aluva today granted nine days police custody of thetwo key accused in the abduction and assault of a popular Malayalam actress.suni

The custody of the two till March 5 was granted a day after theywere remanded in nine days judicial custody by the Aluva First class Judicial Magistrate court.

Seeking the custody of the key accused 'Pulsar' Suni and V P Vigeesh, police said it wanted to conduct further probe into the conspiracy angle in the abduction and harassment of the actress.

Police also said more evidences including the mobile phone used for allegedly clicking the pictures of the actress and the SIM cards used by the accused have to be gathered. Police said they also wanted to take the accused through the places where they had gone hiding after committing the crime.

Police had moved a plea seeking custody of the accused when they were produced before the residence of the magistrate yesterday afternoon. While he was being taken out of the Court, Pulsar Suni asked media not drag names of the people who did not have any connection with the incident.

He said so many people faced "difficulties" due to such speculation. Meanwhile, KPCC Chief V M Sudheeran today criticised Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for suggesting that there appeared to be no conspiracy involved in the incident.

Vijayan had yesterday hit out at those trying to speculate to create "imaginary accused" in the case and said "police will not go after such shadows."

In a related development, the actress today reached Fort Kochi for acting in a new movie. The actress, who has starred in Tamil and Telugu films, was abducted and allegedly molested inside her car for two hours by the accused, who had forced their way into the vehicle on the night of February 17 and later escaped in a busy area in Kochi.

Thane, Mar 22: Eight men were arrested at Kalyan in the district on Sunday as they were found playing cricket during the 'Janata curfew' being observed to check the spread of coronavirus, police said.

They were playing cricket at Kala Talao Maidan in the afternoon, police said.

Police also detained a boy in this connection, an official said.

"Action was taken against them for defying the prohibitory orders issued by the Thane Police Commissionerate.

They also went against the 'Janata curfew' being observed to curb the spread of coronavirus," the police official said.

The Mahatma Phule Chowk Police Station registered an offence against the accused under IPC sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life), 290 (public nuisance).

They were also booked under the Maharashtra Police Act as well as the National Disaster Act 2005, the official said.

Gonda, Apr 9: A man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of his room as he was missing his wife stuck at her parents' place due to the lockdown, police said.

The incident took place in Radha Kund locality here on Wednesday, they said, adding the deceased has been identified as Rakesh Soni, 32.

As per information, Soni's wife had gone to her parents' place and was stuck there due to the lockdown and he was missing her due to which he committed suicide, Inspector Alok Rao said.

A probe is on in the mater, he said.

Mumbai, Jan 12: At least eight persons were killed and several others injured when a massive blast followed by a fire ripped a chemical factory at Boisar in Palghar district, nearly 100 km north of Mumbai, on Saturday, officials said.

Top Palghar district administration, police and fire brigade officials have rushed to the spot for the rescue operation, while Fire Brigade teams from Boisar MIDC industrial area and Tarapur Atomic Power Station are engaged in dousing the flames.

As per local witnesses, the intensity of the explosion was so severe that it was audible in a 35-km range and one building in the factory collapsed.

Besides, many homes in the immediate vicinity were shaken and people ran outside thinking it was an earthquake, as power lines also failed.

The exact cause of the explosion-cum-blaze which occurred around 7 p.m. is not immediately available.
