Kasaragod, Jan 25: Expressing concern at the delay in the arrest of those involved in the murder of three elderly women in the district, the CPI(M) has called for prompt police action to solve the cases.

“It is imperative for the police to act in utmost vigil to resolve the crimes to dispel public apprehension and anxiety aired from various quarters and the law enforcing machinery is bound to safeguard lives and property of the public,” newly elected CPI(M) district secretary M.V. Balakrishnan said in a statement here on Wednesday.

The police had failed to make much headway in the murder of Devaki, a homemaker, at her residence at Periyattadukkam, near Periye, in January last year and that of P.V. Janaki, 65, a retired headmistress at her Puliyannur residence, near Cheemeni, on December 13.

The police are yet to make a breakthrough in the murder of Subaida, 60, last Friday at her house at Chekkipallam, near Periye.

The police also could not make any headway in the attempt on the life of Janaki, 65, at her residence at Velashwaram in Ajanur panchayat, near Kanhangad, on January 15 last year.

They suspect that the crime was committed with a view to robbing the retired Health Department nurse.

“In such a circumstance, the police should act in a meticulous fashion to resolve the cases to allay the apprehension and anxiety among the public,” Mr. Balakrishnan said.

The CPI(M) leader, however, lauded the police for resolving a series of cases, including the murder of a madrassa teacher Muhammed Riyaz and that of Ramakrishnan Moolya at Bandiyode, near Kumbla.
