Mangalore, November 28: Mangalore City Police with assistance from Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force on Sunday arrested a man on extortion charges.

The arrested is Nithesh alias Sanjay alias Ansu Singh, a resident of Shivkepur, Sakaleshpur in Varanasi district of the state of Uttar Pradesh.

According to police, the arrested was an associate of fugitive Bannaja Raja and was wanted in an extortion case reported from Kadri Park area of the city involving realtor Arun Bhandary and his family under Mangalore East Police Station limits.

City police have so far arrested nine persons in the case.

Gonda, Apr 9: A man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of his room as he was missing his wife stuck at her parents' place due to the lockdown, police said.

The incident took place in Radha Kund locality here on Wednesday, they said, adding the deceased has been identified as Rakesh Soni, 32.

As per information, Soni's wife had gone to her parents' place and was stuck there due to the lockdown and he was missing her due to which he committed suicide, Inspector Alok Rao said.

A probe is on in the mater, he said.

Mandya, Jun 14: In a tragic incident, a woman and her two children were drowned in a pond at Beeranahalli village in Nagamangala taluk of this district on Sunday.

Police said that the deceased have been identified as Geeta (40), and her two children Savita(19) and Soumya(14).

Savaitha is a degree student while Soumya was studying in 9th standard. The trio drowned in a pond where they had gone to wash their cows. The locals rushed to the spot and tried to rescue them but could not save.

Belagavi, Jan 19: Miscreants have murdered a couple and their son at Dodwad Village, about 50 km from here, in the wee hours on Sunday.

The victims were identified as Shvananda Basavanthappa Andanashetty, his wife Shanthavva and their son Vinod.

Senior Police officials visited the spot and a case was registered at Dodwad Police Station.
