January 20, 2012

New Delhi, January 20: A 20-year-old woman from the Northeast was allegedly raped by a man who offered her a lift from Gurgaon to her home in Mahipalpur on Thursday night. Instead, he took her to a secluded place in Dwarka and raped her.

Police sources said the incident took place when the woman, who works with a hospitality group in Gurgaon, was waiting for a public transport at IFFCO Chowk to return home around 8.45pm. In a bid to reach home early, she accepted the lift. After the car went a little distance ahead, it started changed way and instead of going towards Mahipalpur, got on to the way towards Dwarka.

The man then took her to a secluded place in Dwarka Sector 23 and sexually assaulted her, the police said. The woman was also beaten up when she resisted him and there were several bruises along with bite marks on the woman's face and body, the sources said.

The accused then left her in an unconscious state in the bushes and fled the spot. The woman regained consciousness a little later and began to look for her phone which she could not find as it had fallen down in the bushes during the scuffle. The woman then gathered courage and came and stood on the road seeking help.

A passerby stopped his car and the victim called her relatives and friends in Mahipalpur from his mobile phone. Police sources said a PCR call was made for Mahipalpur first and subsequently the information was transferred to Dwarka Sector 23 after the woman - with the help of the passerby - managed to give her location, the sources added.

The police took the woman to hospital. A medical examination was conducted and a case of rape has been registered.

The cops recovered her mobile phone along with the debit card from the spot in the morning, the sources said.

The police identified the accused on Thursday night and a hunt is on, sources said.

Panaji, Feb 23: A MiG-29K aircraft crashed off Goa during a routine training sortie on Sunday morning, the Indian Navy said in a statement.

"The pilot ejected safely and has been recovered. An enquiry into the incident has been ordered," the statement said.

On November 16, a MiG-29K trainer flight had crashed after a bird hit, soon after it took off the Dabolim International airport, which functions out of the Indian Navy base INS Hansa.

Both pilots had managed to safely eject themselves to safety after both the engines of their jet failed.

According to data tabled in the recent budget session of the Goa Assembly, every ten days, at least one aircraft landing or taking off at Goa's Dabolim international airport faces dangers involving birds or stray dogs near the runway.
