Five killed in three road accidents

Mangalore, January 26: Five persons were killed in three gruesome road accidents on Wednesday.

Three persons including a woman were killed in a collusion between a sports utility vehicle and a private bus near Mattur church in Beluvai near Belthangady on Wednesday night.

The deceased were identified as John Menezes (79), Sunil Clady Menezes (37) and his wife Veena Priya Menezes (27). The couple's two children, Cleon (3) and Cliston (5 months), who were also in the Tata Sumo had a miraculous escape.

In a separate accident at Chilimbi, Kanthavara cross road near Karkala, a cleaner of Alva’s bus was thrown out of the vehicle and killed on the spot. He was identified as Riyaz (17), a resident of Thodar near Moodbidri.

In yet another accident a youth was run over by a lorry near Kulai under the limits of Suratkal. Police identified the victim as Santhosh (27). The accident occurred when he was riding pillion on the motorcycle of his friend Yashwanth. Sanoths crushed to death under the wheels of lorry, while Yashwant sustained severe injuries.

Mumbai, May 10: A 32-year old man, running a bakery here has been arrested for alleged promotion of products using a tagline that said his firm does not employ Muslims, police said on Sunday.

The man, who is also selling his products online had allegedly said "made by Jains on orders, no Muslim staff" for promotion purposes in his WhatApp group.

A complaint was lodged against him saying the words depicted Muslims in a bad light and Mambalam police registered a case and arrested him, a release said adding a probe was on.

Recently, a man was arrested in Mumbai after he allegedly refused to collect groceries he had ordered online since the delivery person was a Muslim.

Jan 17: Police have busted a "high- profile" sex racket operating in a three-star hotel in suburban Andheri and arrested a 29-year-old woman and rescued three female artists, including a minor, an official said on Thursday.

The Social Service (SS) branch of the city police conducted the raid at the hotel at Andheri East on Thursday, the official said.

"During the raid, three females, including a minor, were found to have been forced into prostitution. They were rescued and a woman, identified as Priya Sharma, who was operating the racket, was arrested," he said.

"Sharma was running tours and travel agency in Kandivali East. However, she was involved in immoral activities," senior inspector of SS branch, Sandesh Revale, said.

While one of the rescued is a woman actor and singer, who has worked in 'Savdhaan India' TV crime show, he said, another one has worked in a Marathi movie and serials.

The minor has worked in a web series, Revale added.

The offence was being registered against Sharma, he said.

Gonda, Apr 9: A man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of his room as he was missing his wife stuck at her parents' place due to the lockdown, police said.

The incident took place in Radha Kund locality here on Wednesday, they said, adding the deceased has been identified as Rakesh Soni, 32.

As per information, Soni's wife had gone to her parents' place and was stuck there due to the lockdown and he was missing her due to which he committed suicide, Inspector Alok Rao said.

A probe is on in the mater, he said.
