Karwar, February 5: Abdul Mohammad Hasan (8), a second standard student, died on the spot when a jeep hit him at Kharva Cross in Honnavar taluk on Friday.
According to a complaint filed with the Honnavar police, he was crossing the road when the accident occurred. He was returning home from school.
The jeep driver sped away. People of Upponi stopped the jeep but the driver managed to escape. People blocked the road demanding that the driver be arrested.
Kozhikode, Jul 20: A 17-year old boy died of head injuries while trying to protect his mother from being assaulted by his drunk father here, police said on Sunday.
The youngster suffered the fatal injury after his head hit against the door when his father shoved him at their home on Saturday. Venu, had come home in an inebriated state and picked up a quarrel with his wife and started beating her up, they said.
On seeing this, Alan tried to intervene. Though the boy was rushed to the hospital, his life could not be saved, they added. Venu was arrested and a case has been registered.
New Delhi, Jan 2: A 20-year-old man set his motorcycle on fire after he was challaned by the traffic police in south Delhi's Greater Kailash area on Wednesday, police said.
Vikas, a resident of Sangam Vihar, was challaned by the traffic police for riding the motorcycle without helmet, a senior police official said.
The traffic police challaned him and impounded the motorcycle, following which Vikas set the bike on fire, the officer said.
A case has been registered and the accused arrested, the officer added.
Thane, Jul 19: A 34-year-old man was arrested on Saturday for allegedly killing his wife after picking up a fight as he did not like the food she cooked, Thane police said.
Sachin Godane, a resident of Gaikwad Pada in Ambernath, locked his two children and an aunt in one room of the house on Friday afternoon and brutally beat up his wife Chandrakala (28) with a log and then strangled her, said Assistant Inspector JB Bhoyer of Shivajinagar police station.
Godane has been remanded in police custody for four days, he added.
