12TH-_STUDENT__921225eLondon/Hyderabad, February 12 :A 26-year-old Indian student was critically stabbed in the London borough of Newham on Friday night and 11 people have been arrested in this connection, Scotland Yard said on Saturday.

This is the fourth attack on Indians in the last two months. The earlier three incidents were fatal.

“Police called at 8:23 am on Friday (February 10) to Newham General Hospital after a man in his 20s was admitted suffering from stab wounds. He is currently in hospital in a critical condition,” Scotland Yard said.

“Officers believe the man sustained his injuries at an address in Kent Street E13. Eleven people have been arrested. Four remain in custody. The other seven have been bailed till future dates. Detectives from Newham Borough are investigating,” it added.

In the earlier incidents, 23-year-old Anuj Bidve was shot dead in Greater Manchester in Salford on December 26. The UK Police also confirmed on January 10 the death of 20-year-old student Gurdeep Hayer in Manchester city centre. This was followed by the murder of Avatar Singh Kolar, 62, and his British wife Carole Kolar, 58, in Birmingham on January 11.

External Affairs Minister S M Krishna spoke to acting High Commissioner Rajesh Prasad, asking him to extend all possible help to the victim, a MBA?student.

Krishna also spoke to Andhra Pradesh based businessman Sudhakar Reddy, father of the stabbed student Praveen, assuring him of all help in getting visa, official sources in New Delhi said.

Reddy, who runs a family business in the Pragathinagar area of Mansurabad division of LB Nagar in Hyderabad, on Saturday told reporters: “All I know is that my son has been stabbed.

“ The London Police told us this morning that our son was stabbed and thrown out from the window of the three-storied building. They told us that they have admitted Praveen to hospital and that his condition is serious. Though they have already taken into custody some people in this regard, it is still not clear how this incident happened,” Sudhakar Reddy said.

“Praveen spoke to me and his mother yesterday.

He was supposed to come down to Hyderabad on February 17 to attend a marriage,” he said.

Sudhakar Reddy’s friend Konda Kasipathi said that neither the police nor the campus authorities had given further information on Praveen’s condition, how the stabbing occurred nor whether there was a racial angle to it.

Local Congress MLA Sudhir Reddy assured Sudhakar Reddy that at least two persons will be allowed to fly to the UK at the earliest.

In another incident, Donti Dheeraj Reddy, another student from Andhra Pradesh who was pursuing higher studies in Sweden, has been missing.

Ashok Reddy, Dheeraj’s father, urged the state government to help track his son. Dheeraj is from Bodhan in Nizamabad district and currently enrolled in the BTH University of Sweden. According to his friends, Dheeraj last attended a class at the university on January 26. They filed a complaint two days later.

Chandigarh, Jan 15: A man, who has killed two women over infidelity over the last 10 years was arrested from a news channel studio in Chandigarh when he confessed to these crimes during a live programme, police said.

In the television programme on News18, the 31-year-old accused, Maninder Singh, who is a cab driver, confessed killing his live-in partner, a 27-year-old nurse Sarabjit Kaur at a Chandigarh hotel on New Year's Eve.

Singh, a former murder convict and currently out on bail, also confessed about his crime committed in Karnal in 2010.

"I killed her (Sarabjit Kaur) because she was having an affair with her sister-in-law's brother," Maninder told the news channel.

Confessing his previous crime, Maninder said he had killed Renu in Karnal. "She was also having an affair with a man from Uttar Pradesh," he said.

Singh was arrested while the programme was still on air as police rushed into the studio.

Haryana Police had arrested him for killing the woman in 2010. He was convicted by a trial court, but he later got bail from the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Nagpur, Jan 28: A 19-year-old woman was allegedly raped and an iron rod was inserted in her private parts by a man in the Pardi area here, police said on Monday.

The gruesome incident took place on January 21 and the accused, Yogilal Rahangdale (52), was arrested from Gondia district, they said.

The accused was working as a supervisor in a spinning mill where the woman was employed as a labourer, the police said.

The woman, her brother, the accused and another girl lived in rented accommodations in Pardi.

Inspector Sunil Chavan of the Pardi police station said that the woman's brother and her female friend had gone to their village on January 21 for some work.

As the woman was alone at home, Rahangdale attempted to rape her in the night. When she resisted, he stuffed a piece of cloth in her mouth, he said.

When she fell unconscious, the accused raped her and inserted an iron rod in her private parts, Chavan said, quoting from the complaint filed by the victim.

She narrated the incident to her brother on January 24 and they subsequently lodged a complaint with the police.

An offence was registered against the accused at the Pardi police station.

Ahmadabad, July 17: The Gujarat high court has ordered the Bharuch superintendent of police to investigate and produce a 14-year-old girl before the court, who has allegedly eloped with a man. Ironically, the man was convicted two years ago on Pocso charges for eloping with another minor girl in 2016.

The high court has asked the government to file an application for bail cancellation of the convict because he has indulged in a similar offence after having come out on bail.

The case involved one Dilip Padhiyar (24) from Uchchhad village in Jambusar taluka of Bharuch district.

He was punished with 10 years in jail in December 2018 by a special court for kidnapping a 16-year-old girl in 2016. He was prosecuted under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and for rape and kidnapping charges. He got away with a 10-year-imprisonment because the girl was over 16 years and she had not alleged rape. However, Dilip Padhiyar was held guilty of statutory rape, abduction as well as under provisions of Pocso Act.

Dinesh Padhiyar got regular bail from the high court pending his appeal challenging his conviction in January 2019. In November 2019, he eloped with another minor girl.

Her father approached the high court complaining that though an FIR was registered with Vedach police station, the police have not made any effort to trace his minor girl. It was also contended in the habeas corpus petition that Padhiyar is a habitual offender.

Petitioner's advocate Imtiyaz Kureshi said that looking at the past of Dinesh Padhiyar, the high court asked the state government to initiate proceedings for cancellation of his bail.

The bench headed by Justice Sonia Gokani instructed HC's registry to treat the bail cancellation application as an urgent matter.

The high court has ordered Bharuch SP to produce the girl before the court by July 20, and in case she cannot be traced by then, he will have to submit an action taken report.
