14 cases filed against Yogeeshwara

yogiBangalore, February 24: The Serious Fraud Investigation Office on Thursday filed 14 cases against eight persons including Forest Minister C P Yogeeshwara and his family members in connection with the alleged misappropriation of funds involving Mega City (Bangalore) Developers and Builders (MDBL).

Six criminal cases were filed before a court while the remaining eight related to violation of Company Law were filed before the Special Economic Offences Court. The matter had been adjourned to June 11.

Yogeeshwara, who is also the Managing Director of Mega City (Bangalore) Developers and Builders, his wife N Manjukumari, brother C P Gangadhareshwar (Executive Director), relative P Mahadevaiah (Director), H P Ramesh (Non-Executive Director), Sambasadashiva Rao, Arun Charantimath (chairperson) and his wife Sujatha Charanithmath have been arrayed as accused in the complaints.

Standing Government Counsel, Government of India, B P Puttasiddaiah told Deccan Herald that the SFIO submitted a detailed report to the Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs after a probe an year ago and the cases had been filed on the directions of the ministry.

Yogeeshwara and others started MDBL in 1994 and allegedly duped as many as 9,600 investors to the tune of Rs 60 crore by promising them sites.

They are said to have misappropriated the money collected from the investors. The details of the offences have been given in 14 booklets which run into 2,000 pages.

The cases, filed under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code pertain to criminal breach of trust, dishonest misappropriation of property possessed by a deceased person, forgery and criminal conspiracy.

Noida, Jul 28: A doctor admitted at a private hospital in Noida has been accused of sexually harassing a patient in his isolation ward, where both were undergoing treatment for COVID-19, the police said.

The 20-year-old woman, in her complaint to the police, alleged that the incident took place on Monday and based on that a case was filed at the local expressway police station, they said.

A senior police official said an investigation is underway and there might be lapses on part of the hospital which allegedly admitted a man and a woman in the same isolation ward, in violation of the norms.

The woman and the doctor had tested positive for coronavirus last week, according to officials.

"The woman was in the isolation ward of the private hospital. There was a man, a medical practitioner, who too was infected with coronavirus and was sharing the ward with her," Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Noida, Ranvijay Singh said.

He said the woman alleged molestation and upon being informed, the police immediately lodged a case and initiated a probe into the matter.

"There appears to be some irresponsibility on part of the hospital too. We are communication with the medical departments to check whether the patients were being kept in accordance with the guidelines," Mr Singh said.

He said the accused is still in isolation but the police will reach out for his statement following due protocols of COVID-19.

"All necessary action will be taken as per the truth that will emerge after a thorough investigation," Mr Singh said.

Chandigarh, Jan 15: A man, who has killed two women over infidelity over the last 10 years was arrested from a news channel studio in Chandigarh when he confessed to these crimes during a live programme, police said.

In the television programme on News18, the 31-year-old accused, Maninder Singh, who is a cab driver, confessed killing his live-in partner, a 27-year-old nurse Sarabjit Kaur at a Chandigarh hotel on New Year's Eve.

Singh, a former murder convict and currently out on bail, also confessed about his crime committed in Karnal in 2010.

"I killed her (Sarabjit Kaur) because she was having an affair with her sister-in-law's brother," Maninder told the news channel.

Confessing his previous crime, Maninder said he had killed Renu in Karnal. "She was also having an affair with a man from Uttar Pradesh," he said.

Singh was arrested while the programme was still on air as police rushed into the studio.

Haryana Police had arrested him for killing the woman in 2010. He was convicted by a trial court, but he later got bail from the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Hyderabad, Apr 11: With the Telangana government banning spitting in public places in the backdrop of COVID-19 pandemic, a police case has been registered here against a man for violating the rule.

During vehicle-checking on Friday, police found the man spitting on the road here and registered a case against him for disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant, police said.

Spitting in public places and institutions has been banned in the state in view of the pandemic with the government saying such acts pose a serious threat of leading to spread of infections.

"In the interest of public health and safety, the spitting of paan/any chewable tobacco or non-tobacco product, sputum in public places & institutions is hereby BANNED with immediate effect," a gvernment notification said.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought to the fore the importance of hygiene and cleanliness in both personal as well as public spheres, the April 6 notification issued by the Health, Medical and Family Welfare department said.

"It is of utmost need to impose restrictions on unhealthy practices that may potentially lead to spread of such viruses and other infections," it said.

The habit of public spitting poses a serious threat of leading to spread of such infections, the notification added.
