Young IPS officer crushed to death by mining mafia

Bhopal, March 8: A young Indian Police Service officer was crushed to death in the Morena district of Madhya Pradesh, police said on Thursday.

Kumar, sub-divisional police officer of Bamor, was trying to stop a tractor loaded with illegally-quarried stones. "But instead of stopping, the driver ran over him. Kumar was rushed to hospital but died on the way," DIG (Chambal), D P Gupta told IANS.

Kumar was a 2009 batch IPS officer and was on probation. His wife Madhurani Tewatia, an Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer, is also posted in Madhya Pradesh but is presently on maternity leave in Delhi.

The tractor driver has been arrested.

New Delhi, Jan 2: A 20-year-old man set his motorcycle on fire after he was challaned by the traffic police in south Delhi's Greater Kailash area on Wednesday, police said.

Vikas, a resident of Sangam Vihar, was challaned by the traffic police for riding the motorcycle without helmet, a senior police official said.

The traffic police challaned him and impounded the motorcycle, following which Vikas set the bike on fire, the officer said.

A case has been registered and the accused arrested, the officer added.

Belagavi, Jan 19: Miscreants have murdered a couple and their son at Dodwad Village, about 50 km from here, in the wee hours on Sunday.

The victims were identified as Shvananda Basavanthappa Andanashetty, his wife Shanthavva and their son Vinod.

Senior Police officials visited the spot and a case was registered at Dodwad Police Station.
