Fisherman assaulted over membership row

Karwar, March 25: A dispute over membership of the fishermen's association left a man injured after he was attacked by a group on Friday evening near Sunkeri Masjid in Karwar.


According to the complaint filed by the victim, Umesh Narayan Bhute, 49, a fisherman, a gang of eight persons attacked him near Sunkeri masjid after an argument. The members of the gang wanted him to resign from the Fishermen's Co-operative Society at Nandanagadda in Karwar.

When Umesh refused, he was assaulted. He has been shifted to the District Hospital.

In his complaint, Umesh, a resident of Kathinkon, said Pradeep Morje, Vinayak Joshi, Chandrakant Davade, Shripad Mukri, Santosh Nagekar, Madhukar Joshi, Vinod Nagekar, and Satosh Thakkar had attacked him.

Kozhikode, Jun 26: A man, who had returned from Bahrain on Thursday and has been under quarantine at his house in Villyapallai near here, has been stabbed on his arm by an unidentified person.

Police sources said the assailant, with a masked face, had ransacked the man's house by break-opening the door at midnight lat night and stabbed Lijeesh on his arm and fled from the scene.

The nearby residents took Lijeesh to a nearby hospital and was put back on quarantine.

Pilibhit, Apr 3: Two men were mauled to death by a tiger in the vicinity of Pilibhit Tiger Reserve here, an official said on Friday.

The incident happened in Richhaula Chowki of Gajraula area in the district on Thursday night when Ninder Singh (50) and his servant Dorilal (28) were sleeping on their agricultural field, Pilibhit Tiger Reserve Deputy Director Naveen Khandelwal told reporters.

The tiger also dragged them for over 500 metres, he said.

The forest department came to know about the incident when they were informed about it by Ninder's brother after which teams of police, district administration and forest department reached there.

The tiger was tranquillised on Friday by the forest department team and will be sent to Lucknow Zoo.

New Delhi, Jan 2: A 20-year-old man set his motorcycle on fire after he was challaned by the traffic police in south Delhi's Greater Kailash area on Wednesday, police said.

Vikas, a resident of Sangam Vihar, was challaned by the traffic police for riding the motorcycle without helmet, a senior police official said.

The traffic police challaned him and impounded the motorcycle, following which Vikas set the bike on fire, the officer said.

A case has been registered and the accused arrested, the officer added.
