7-year-old raped by ragpicker

Jaipur, April 22: A unconscious seven-year old girl was found bleeding at the Chandni Chowk in Manak Chowk police station area on Saturday morning after she was allegedly raped by a ragpicker. The girl's parents spotted her lying under a tree and informed the police. The accused is yet to be arrested.


According to the police, the girl's parents are also ragpickers. "She used to sleep on pavements with her parents. The parents have accused another ragpicker Dinesh alias Sonu of raping the girl. Dinesh used to call her mother his sister," additional DCP (north) Madan Gopal said. who used to call the girl's mother his sister of the rape," Add DCP, north Madan Gopal said.


The officer said around 7pm on Friday Dinesh took the girl to the market and told the mother he would get the child chocolates, but did not return. telling her mother that he would get the child some chocolates around 7 pm on Friday. However, he did not return.


"The parents kept searching for the girl and Dinesh throughout the night. On Saturday early morning she was found unconscious at Chandni Chowk area," the officer said.


The girl was rushed to SMS Hospital. in an ambulance. She was unconscious and bleeding.


"She was unconscious till late afternoon. Now, she can speak a bit, but is still under shock. Her statement is yet to be recorded," he said.


The parents have registered an FIR with the police against Dinesh under Section 376 of IPC. "He is missing. Teams have been constituted in his search. Further investigation is on," said the officer.

Mumbai, May 28: Twenty four doctors and three others staying in a south Mumbai hotel were rescued after a major fire broke out in the five-storey building, officials said on Thursday.

The BMC has arranged temporary accommodation for emergency and essential service staffers, including doctors and nurses, in various hotels and lodges in the city due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This hotel is one such facility.

The fire broke out at Hotel Fortune near Metro Cinema late Wednesday night and was brought under control after nearly three hours early Thursday, fire brigade officials said.

“The fire spread from the first to the third floor of the hotel, a fire brigade official told PTI. It was a level-2 fire and eight fire engines were rushed to the spot, he added.

The fire was confined to the electric wiring and cables in the electrical duct, false ceiling in the lobby and the common passages on the first, second and third floors of the hotel, he said.

The 24 rescued were resident doctors at a local hospital who were provided temporary accommodation in the hotel, while the three others were guests of the hotel, he said.

The fire broke out at 11 am and wasbrought under control at 1.40 am, the official said. Cooling operation is underway at the hotel, he added.

Five doctors were rescued using fire brigade ladders and breathing apparatus sets, the official said.

The cause of the blaze is not yet known, the fire brigade official said.

On April 21, a major fire broke out in a lodging room of Hotel Ripon near Mumbai Central, which was being used as a quarantine facility by the civic body.

Noida, Jul 28: A doctor admitted at a private hospital in Noida has been accused of sexually harassing a patient in his isolation ward, where both were undergoing treatment for COVID-19, the police said.

The 20-year-old woman, in her complaint to the police, alleged that the incident took place on Monday and based on that a case was filed at the local expressway police station, they said.

A senior police official said an investigation is underway and there might be lapses on part of the hospital which allegedly admitted a man and a woman in the same isolation ward, in violation of the norms.

The woman and the doctor had tested positive for coronavirus last week, according to officials.

"The woman was in the isolation ward of the private hospital. There was a man, a medical practitioner, who too was infected with coronavirus and was sharing the ward with her," Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Noida, Ranvijay Singh said.

He said the woman alleged molestation and upon being informed, the police immediately lodged a case and initiated a probe into the matter.

"There appears to be some irresponsibility on part of the hospital too. We are communication with the medical departments to check whether the patients were being kept in accordance with the guidelines," Mr Singh said.

He said the accused is still in isolation but the police will reach out for his statement following due protocols of COVID-19.

"All necessary action will be taken as per the truth that will emerge after a thorough investigation," Mr Singh said.

Bengaluru, May 6: Central Crime Branch Police have nabbed 71 people involved in various crimes taking advantage of Lock-down which prevents movement of people in the street and seized stolen properties worth about Rs 1.70 crore, official said on Wednesday.

Police said that in all 56 cases were booked. In all 17,312 duplicate Sanitisers, 2000 lts of Chemicals, 18,750 fake Masks, 270 Thermometers and two cars were seized from the arrested culprits.

During the raid godowns where rice and dal meant for free distribution during lock-down were robbed and stored were also seized.
